Lancashire / Hugh MacFarlane - Barrow-in-Furness
« on: Saturday 26 March 16 01:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to identify the parents of Hugh MacFarlane, who was born in Scotland, married Susannah Dunn in Barrow-in-Furness in 1893 and lived most of his adult life there before dying there in 1934.  I believe that this Hugh is my g.g.uncle, but I have not been able to make an explicit connection to his life or family in Scotland.  I ordered his marriage certificate, but oddly it did not include his father's name.

Here are the two people I am trying to connect:
1) Hugh McFarlane, born 10 April 1864 in Edinburgh to Alexander McFarlane & Isabella McKenzie;
Appears in the 1871 and 1881 censuses in Dundee, Angus; he had two elder siblings: Isabella, who was still in Scotland in 1891 but whose fate after that is unknown, and Thomas, who emigrated to America and was my g.grandfather.

2) Hugh MacFarlane, married 12 May 1893 to Susannah Dunn and died in Barrow in 1934;
Appears in the 1891 census in Wigan, and in 1901 and 1911 in Barrow-in-Furness - the 1911 census says he was born in Edinburgh.  The census records match the expected age of Hugh #1 exactly, although the other records are a bit off.

So my question is: are there any other sources that I might check in England that might show either his birthdate or his parents' names (e.g., obituaries, cemetery records, etc.)?  Or does anyone have further information about this family?

Mayo / Peter Jordan c.1802 & Bridget Fox c.1815
« on: Wednesday 19 February 14 03:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate marriage or other info on Peter Jordan (born c.1802) and Bridget Fox (born c.1815), who married in the 1830s and had at least one child (James c.1839) in Ireland before emigrating to Canada c.1840 and then settling in Pittsburgh USA before 1850.

U.S. records indicate they were from County Mayo, but I have no idea what parish(es) they came from.  Any suggestions on how best to find info on their marriage or births?  Based on their surnames, are there any parishes or areas that might be especially worth focusing on?

Or do these people sound familiar to you?  Thanks.

Norfolk / Cuthbert family - Lynn Regis (King's Lynn)
« on: Sunday 13 May 07 23:43 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on ancestors Samuel and Mary Cuthbert and their son Sturley, who was born c.1795/6, reportedly in Lynn Regis (King's Lynn).  According to sources I have checked so far, there are no parish records extant from that period for Lynn Regis.  Is that correct?  Any suggestions for sources I might be able to check to find information about this family?  Thanks.
