I had planned to do this to look at Valuation Rolls not listed on their web site and this is what you will need to comply with if you too plan a visit. I am 80 years old an unable to comply with some of the things they require so had to cancel my request. I did not learn this until the last minute, I don't think they publish this for would be searchers.

Thank you for your reply.

I have confirmed your seat booking in the Historical Search Room for 10:00am on Tuesday 14 December. Please come to the Garden Entrance (through the Archivists' Garden) of General Register House.

We are staggering the entry for readers into the building, so it would be much appreciated if you could arrive exactly on time. If asked by security colleagues, please advise them of your name and that you have a confirmed appointment to visit the Historical Search Room.

Please note that if you have not visited the Historical Search Room before, you will need to obtain a reader's ticket before viewing any records. We can issue you with a ticket on the day of your visit. You will need to bring with you the following:

a form of photographic identification, such as a passport or driving licence
proof of address, such as a recent bank statement or utility bill. These must be originals, not scans or viewable only on a mobile phone.
two colour passport-sized photographs of yourself
You should inform yourself of various changes to the Historical Search Room service by reading the new guidance note here –https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/files//registration/nrs-temporary-historical-search-room-guidance-for-users.pdf . We are also asking all visitors to commit to our Safe Visit Agreement - https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/about-us/safe-visit-agreement .

You will be required to provide a telephone number for NHS Test and Protect purposes. Without this, we will not be able to allow access to the building. Such personal information as is collected for Test and Protect purposes will be deleted after a maximum of 21 days.

You will also need a £1 coin, which is returnable, to access a locker for your belongings.

Please note that you will be required to wear a face covering throughout your visit, unless medically exempt. A disposable mask can be provided on request.

We recommend bringing warm clothing, as windows will be open to improve ventilation.

If you have any further questions in advance of your visit, please get in touch.

We look forward to seeing you on your forthcoming visit.

Stirlingshire / Tracing Limerigg family help please.
« on: Wednesday 20 October 21 15:46 BST (UK)  »
My Mother Jean Reynolds went to Sorn Cottage, Crossroads, Avonbridge for my birth at her parents house in 1941, some time later she moved to Heatherfield Cottage in Limerigg, Slamannan where we lived up till 1946 before moving once more into Lanarkshire. I know from living there as a small boy, Heatherfield Cottage had 4 dwellings of one room each, it is marked on old maps, image attached, you will see the property at the bottom of the image. I went to Stirlingshire Archives Office to look at Valuation Rolls for the years 1941 up to 1946 and we are not mentioned anywhere on any Volume, it does mention Heatherfield Cottage but under only one name, not the 4 families who lived there, so I'm stuck. Is there any other way I can check the Inhabitants of that row of houses for our family named Kerr or Reynolds.

Scotland / John Reynolds 1897-1941 - help needed.
« on: Thursday 05 September 13 20:17 BST (UK)  »
My uncle John Reynolds, born 1897 and registered in Bathgate west Lothian, died aged 44 years in 1941 and I know absolutely nothing about him other than the circumstances of his death. John was a Fireman aboard the ship Socony during ww2, engaged in the Atlantic Convoys at the worst period when Convoy losses were over 50% each voyage. I have his death certificate extracted from the Marine Register of Deaths and a full report taken from the Ships Log listing his Official Number 159450, his place of death 56*10 North by 14*08 West, his few posessions and his last known address in Grangemouth which I can give by PM if needed. The certificate does not give Next of kin.

I have tried everything I know to find out about Uncle John's life before this incident, I would like to know who lived at the last known address and if they had any kind of relationship with John, did he have children, I can find no marriage at SP there are about 4 other John Reynolds but not mine.

How can I learn who lived at his last known address in 1941 Grangemouth Stirlingshire.

For the record.
Father - Patrick Reynolds
Mother - Agnes McCrystal
Birth registered in Bathgate West Lothian.

Stirlingshire / Muiravonside & Redford Collieries Memorial
« on: Sunday 18 March 12 19:39 GMT (UK)  »
A nice day today so I went for a Bike ride round the old places. I was looking in particular
for the remains of Gateside No 1 & No 2 Coal pits up the Standburn Road just outside
Avonbridge which belonged to parts of my family many decades ago. I came upon a Memorial
with names which might interest some researchers here.

Would anyone here have a photo, or know where one might be, of a small row of houses called "Heatherfield" just outside Limerigg on the Coorie Doon road to Airdrie by the side of The Black Loch.

James.
