Australia / Emma Maggs - daughter of James and Harriet
« on: Thursday 08 March 18 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi to you all,

Looking for some help to find out what happened to Emma Maggs.
She was born c1843 in Somerset, England to James Maggs and Harriet Martha Banfield.
The family of James, Harriet and children Emma (9), Joseph (6), Jemina (3) - she died at the Quarantine Station, Ticonderoga Bay, and Samuel (1) arrived 1853 in Victoria on "Ticonderoga"

I've found all the information I need for the family, including children Mary Jane, Jane and James who were born in Victoria after their arrival.

In her father's will dated September 1888 he mentions "his son Samuel Maggs, son James Maggs, daughter Jane Cook, daughter-in-law Mary Anne Maggs, each of my four children"

I can't find a death for Emma.  Can someone see what they can find please.

Thanks for any help.

Australia / Elvie Mary Irene MAGGS
« on: Saturday 27 January 18 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
 Hi all,

Looking for some help please.

Elvie Mary Irene Maggs   born c1921.
Father: Robert Thomas Maggs Mother: Edith Ellen BRITNELL

She married Thomas Cooper Thomas 1938 in Victoria
He died  October 1951 in Victoria. Can’t find any death notices for him.

In Elvie’s brother’s death notice 18/4/1945 she is named as Mrs. Anderson
Victorian Electoral Roll
Name: Elvie Mary Irene Anderson
Residence: 1943 - city, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia
Is there anyone else with her at this address?

She married Russell Ronald Albury Maggs 1946 in Victoria. Her maiden name was given as Maggs
He died 20/3/1960

Elvie died as Elvie Mary Irene McDonald 4/2/1969.
I used the “Ask a Librarian” feature for the State Library and got a fantastic response.
They provided all the death and funeral notices that were published.
It lists all her children, but given they may still be alive, I won’t name them.  What I’m trying to find out is, who fathered the children.
There is one male named   J* married to L* ,   and 4 girls.
A* married to C*,      N* married to S*,    N* married to R*,    and G* who is the daughter
of Russell Maggs, engaged to L*

Elvie is only a distant "twig" on my tree, so I'm reluctant to get a certificate at this stage but I'm intrigued by her life.

Any help with this would be appreciated and please remove this post if I have breached any privacy rules.

Thanks,
Raylen

Australia / Harriet Arnold born C1850 Kent, England
« on: Monday 05 June 17 00:16 BST (UK)  »

I am looking for some help to see if I can find out what happened to
HARRIETT ARNOLD born c1850 Kent, England.
Father:  Henry Arnold ,  Mother: Caroline Warman.

I have Henry, Caroline and Harriet arriving in Australia on “Lady Flora” 1851 with Henry’s
parents,  William Burville Arnold and Hannah Tucker, and all 10 of Henry’s siblings.
* I haven't seen the original passenger list, only transcribed copy.

I can account for everyone else but Harriet.
Harriet is not mentioned in either of her parent's death notices and I can’t see a marriage or death for her.
Appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Australia / Marriage and Divorce in New South Wales 1941
« on: Friday 31 March 17 04:24 BST (UK)  »

Hi all,

A question for someone who knows how the NSW BDM registers work.

I have a couple who's divorce became absolute in November 1941 in
New South Wales.
When I checked to see if either had remarried, there is a marriage entry (well 2 entries
actually - alternate spelling of a christian name)  showing on the NSW  BDM's

They married in Victoria in December 1934.

My question I guess is,  when divorces were granted, were they recorded in the "marriages"?
OR
Would this be a Victorian marriage certificate amended to show they had divorced?

Happy to learn anything to satisfy my curiosity  ;D

Thanks,

Raylen

Australia / Florence Sylvia Isabel CROSS
« on: Saturday 04 February 17 04:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
Looking for some help again.

Florence Sylvia Isabel CROSS (sometimes called Sylvie and Annie) born in Euroa in 1907
to John Lloyd CROSS and Annie Mary CRAVEN and was the 2nd wife of William Robert HUTCHINSON.

She was named as his wife in William Robert's death notice in June 1961
but after that I can't find anymore on her.
They married in 1945 and the children mentioned in his death notice are
his children from his first marriage to Rhoda Hutchinson, who he divorced in 1940.

Any clues please  ???

Australia / John BLOOD - Electoral Roll Look up please
« on: Saturday 17 December 16 10:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Just looking for some help with a little mystery.

I have JOHN BLOOD born 1886 Ringwood, Victoria.
Died 6/8/1934 Oakleigh.

In 1913 he married Clara Bell  (sometimes Clarabell) JACKSON and had
Albert  John in 1913 and Alvin Robert  in 1918.

In John Blood’s death notice -
The Argus 7/8/1934
BLOOD.—On the 6th August, at Latrobe Street, Oakleigh, John,
beloved husband of Eliza and loving father of John and Robert, foster-father of Kathleen, aged 48 years.

I can’t see  a marriage for John to an Eliza.
Tried looking for maybe a divorce on Trove –
(Very difficult with the name “Blood”)   :D,  and found nothing.

Clara Blood remarried James Henry Albert TAYLOR in 1937 and she died 1970.

Could someone please have a look at the electoral rolls and see who John
had living with him over the years.

Also, I know it’s a long shot but, any clue as to who Kathleen, the foster daughter
might be.

Thanks for any help.

Australia / Victorian BDM online
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 12:10 BST (UK)  »

Good Evening all,

I was wondering if anyone has come across something I found
tonight while searching the online Victorian BDM page.
I have a birth recorded, that I got the details from the old Macbeth disc
(which now don't work on Windows 10  >:( ) but when I went
to check something on the online listings it said there were no results.
I tried all options, Surname only, mother and father only and registration no -
nothing at all.
Probably just a missed entry but it's had me thinking how many others might be
missing.

Thoughts on what to do please?

Thanks,

Raylen
