Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Widley and Old Purbrook.
« on: Sunday 15 May 16 15:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Some local knowledge needed, please!

I have the chance to be in the Portsmouth area next week and wanted to visit the Churchyards around that (should) contain the ancestor's graves. -Farlington, N&S Hayling, Wymering and Widley. But am I right ( having been Googling) that Widley Church is now demolished and all the gravestones removed?
If so, does anyone know where they are, if they were recorded, and where I can access MIs? Is the site worth visiting now?
Also, are there any gravestones left at the 2? churches on Hayling Island?

Any help gratefully received....(am looking for names Miles, Palmer, Vallar, Ivemy, Sparkes, Legg(e) and Toms.

My Miles lot were blacksmiths at Purbrook, does anyone know where the smithy was?

Thank-you,
Sally

Name; Jennet Wilson
Gender; ( I think they mean sex) Female
Race; ( do they mean colour of skin?) White
Age; 60
Birthdate; ( I presume they mean birth year approximate) 1718
Deathdate; 6 Sep 1778

Technical Help / Ancestry
« on: Thursday 07 January 16 11:07 GMT (UK)  »
hi all, hoping for some help!
I have not used Ancestry for about a month. Today I can't seem to use it at all!!!

I have been flopped over to the "improved site"- cant get off it, can't get any search buttons to work,
some pages won't come up at all, can't even "verify" my pass word, which on and off it wants me to do.  Is this me do you think, or is there a problem today? Any ideas?

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Waddingworth baptisms; Tuxworth
« on: Tuesday 28 July 15 13:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Is anyone going to Lincoln Archives and able to do a quick look-up for me?

I am looking for a baptism of James Tuxworth in about 1834. He should be the bastard son of a Mary Tuxworth, and, I am hoping he's in Waddingworth PRs. -I've searched for years for him around Louth, and Legbourne where he said he was born. But also in parishes elsewhere where I believe his mother had connections. Just found a criminal record for him which states pob as WADDINGWORTH, which is great, but the PRs are not online.

Help, very gratefully received and will reimburse expenses if a copy can be got of anything useful....

Thank-you so much.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / very difficult ancestress- Sarah Glossop, Sheffield
« on: Thursday 04 August 11 21:39 BST (UK)  »
Dear All,
I've probably posted on Sarah Glossop before, forgive me, but I am at my wits end! I'm hoping that someone would be kind enough to look at this and tell me if I am an idiot.

my 4x great Grandparents- Sarah Glossop, spinster, and William Thompson, widower married Sheffield St Peter's both OTP, 3 jan 1791.
I've long since given up on Wm, -too common a name really, and the only info I have is he was desc as a Schoolmaster at bapt of twin daus, 1792, and son 1795.
So, concentrating on Sarah I am flummoxed.- assuming ( big one) she was born in Sheffield area, there are loads to look at. The clue- am I right in thinking?- should be the witnesses to her marriage. These were a David Glossop and an Ann Birkinshaw.
As far as I can see there are 2 David Glossops as adults in the records at this date- one son of Stephen who was apprenticed years earlier as a cutler- the other a Game keeper/farmer, son of an Abraham, Farmer at Ecclesall. This David married a Sarah, but did not seem to have a dau Sarah, but he did have a sister called Sarah b c 1754- a good "fit" for dates. As for Ann Birkinshaw- there are severall, but also an Ann Glossop who married a Joseph Birkinshaw of Button Hill , Ecclesall.
So I've made a flying leap at my Sarah being from Ecclesall, dau of Abraham, sister of David. And MAYBE Ann was Hannah daughter of David son of Abraham.
Trouble is there are loads of possibilities, so, I would really welcome some help here!!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Ecclesall, Sheffield, All Saints MIs
« on: Sunday 25 April 10 18:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone have access to the MIs for All Saints Ecclesall? I am looking for the Glossop and Thompson families c 1800- there is a burial for a David Glossop 1793, and a Mary (nee Binney?) 1797, and a William Thompson in 1812, and wondered if these surnames occur on any headstones-   it will save me a trip!!
I'd be really gratefull if anyone could look these up for me,
Thank-you,
Sally
