« on: Thursday 29 June 17 19:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone tell me if there are electoral rolls in the US, like we have in UK, listing residents of the household that are available to search online? Trying to find the address of someone on my family tree from early 1970s, lived in an area in DC

Thanks for any advice

Europe / Belgium - Servais family, 1940s
« on: Sunday 05 May 13 20:22 BST (UK)  »
Please can any help or advise how I can progress my search for this family. I am at a loss as to where to start and you have all been so helpful in the past.

My grandfather George William Stanley served in the second world war. He was 39-45 years of age during this war (Service Corps I think) but was a mechanic by trade. He also served in the first world war.

He died in 1965 but I have recently been given a photograph that belonged to him, of a Belgian family who he either billeted with, or helped him in some way in the war. I know that he was still in touch with them in 1955 because they came to England to attend my grandmother's funeral.

On the back of the photograph are the names:

Jean, Joujon (?), Renee, Monique, M et Mme Servais, 26 rue Van Lint (possibly Rint), Bruxelles.

I am just intrigued as to find who they were and if any of these children are still alive and how they helped my grandfather. I realise that Servais is a relatively common Belgian name.

Does anyone know if there are Belgian records online that I can trace this family or even if there are any local newspapers in Brussels that I could send a letter and the attached photographs to?

Many thanks for any responses or time taken to help.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Fred Williams Sr and Jr of Featherstone and Hemsworth
« on: Tuesday 19 October 10 20:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me find my great great grandparents Fred and Ellen (or Helen) Williams? I have found Fred in the 1871 census before he got married - Fred was born circa 1851 in Norton, Somerset but working as a coal miner in 1871 in Mountain Ash in Wales.

I have found them in the 1881 census with two children: Mary Jane and Fred, born in Glamorgan, Wales but now living in Featherstone, Yorkshire.

Unfortunately, I can't find either Fred Sr and Ellen in the 1891 census nor Fred Williams Jr.

Fred and Ellen (now appearing as Helen) are in the 1901 and 1911 census in Hemsworth and their children are listed as alive but I still can't find Fred Jr.

Can anyone help?

Hi,

Can anyone help - I am looking for NJ death records in the 1930s online. I live in the UK so I can't easily access offline records. Unfortunately, there seems to be little information regarding New Jersey on Ancestry and other genealogy websites.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance

US Lookup Requests / James Zeller New York / New Jersey
« on: Monday 02 August 10 19:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can someone help me find James and Minnie Zeller in the 1910 US Census?

James arrived in the US in 1896. By 1910, I know that he was married and living in either New York area or New Jersey. At the time of his draft in WW1, he was living in Hoboken, New Jersey.

By 1910, he had also had a son called David Zeller, born in 1902 in New York state.

I have found them in the 1920 and 1930 census but not 1910.

Can anyone help?

Other Countries / India: Marriage and birth records 1886-1901
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 13:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

New to the other countries board but not to rootschat.

I have located a marriage certificate in the British Library records for a relatives marriage in Mussorie in 1886-1889. Both parties appear to be British (or have British names anyway). I have ordered the certificate but wondered if anyone could help with this questions:

1) Does anyone have an idea of what information was contained on Indian colonial marriage certificates
2) I can't find a reference to their son's birth record online but know he was born in India (Cocanada, or Kakinada as it is now). Does anyone know if all the records contained are currently indexed online?

Thanks

England / Robert Charles Busher
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Does anyone have any ideas on this one because I just can't seem to find the information I am looking for.

Robert Charles Busher was born around 1899-1900, somewhere in England and worked for the North Eastern Railway before moving to India at some point. He then ended up in New Zealand where I know for certain that he died in 1959.

My only problem is that I can't find any record that he was born in England, but the family in New Zealand believe he was.

Busher is a relatively unusual name in the UK, going on what I have researched and wondered if anyone could help?
Many thanks in advance for any help received

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Lookup - Williams family, Hemsworth
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 21:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could anyone help me with this request?

I have a relative - Fred Williams, who I have managed to locate from 1871 to 1911 census except the 1891 census.

Fred Williams (born in Norton, Somerset abt 1851) and was married to Ellen (sometimes spelt Helen).  Fred was a coal miner who moved from Norton, to Wales (where he married) and then to Hemsworth, Pontefract and Featherstones area.

Children - Mary Jane (b 1872 in Wales), Fred (b abt 1873 in Wales).

In 1881 census, they lived in Featherstone.

Can anyone help because I just can't seem to find the right Fred in 1891.

Many thanks in advance.
