Devon / William PHARE
« on: Friday 14 September 07 07:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
seeking to find out more about my Phare ancestors.  I have William Phare born April 14, 1818 in the village of Bratton Clovelly, by his own hand on naturalization records.  He married Ann Hyne in 1850 uncertain if marriage in Devon. They had several children born in Stoke Dameral, and a few born in Devenport in Devon.  They immigrated to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio in US 1866/1867.

Wondering who William's parents were and if he had siblings.  Also wondering if I have found all of William & Ann's children. Uncertain in which place each child was born and if there were others I missed.

Children I have are: Ellen Eliza b. 1853; Martha Jane b. September 1865; Edith Mary b. February 1867; Elizabeth Ann b. 1851; Frederick R. b. September 1863; John James b. 1858; William Henry b. 1856; and Minnie O. (born in Ohio 1870).

Thanks for any help.

Antrim / Susan Douglas 1829 birth
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 06:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello I am trying to track my husbands elusive Irish ancestress.

This is what I have:

Susan McLellan Douglas born December 25, 1829 County Antrim

In 1858 she is in Heuvelton Village, St. Lawrence County, New York married there November 15, 1858 to Ira Thurston and lived there until she died January 19, 1905.  On the US census she stated her father born Scotland and mother born Ireland.

I have never found any relatives that I know of in my research to be in this area and cannot figure out how she came to be here unless she came across the river from Canada and may have relatives there.  I did not find her in the 1850 census but is in the 1860 age 29 married to Ira.  She may have been in Canada first. 1870 Census has her age 43; 1880 Census she is 50. 1900 Census has her birth listed as December 1825 age 75 she is not naturalized and number of years in US is crossed out and changed uncertain if changed to 40 or 70 may also have CAN written over original writing very illegible.  This is the only census Susan is listed in that also has immigration information.

Any help in finding the names of her parents and any siblings, and the village where she was born, (and just maybe when she came to US or Canada) is greatly appreciated.

Childrens names should there be a pattern:

Arina I.; John; Orpha Naomi; Ellen/Ella E.; William J.; Charles L.

Thanks,

Hello, Here are some more of my latest mysteries I could use some help with.

I am seeking census info from 1871, 1891, and 1901 for:

William Wallace born abt 1847 unknown  son of James Wallace & Janet McKinlay married Margaret McDonald born abt 1848 born Lanark daughter of Archibald McDonald & Elizabeth Paton.  They were married March 25, 1870 Partick, Glasgow, Lanark.

Margaret died May 31, 1901 so I do not know if she would appear depending on when Census for 1901 taken. William died in 1907.

I had the 1881 Census info but have currently misplaced it so cannot enter it.

Their Children were:

1)Elizabeth Paton Wallace born August 3, 1870 Calton, Glasgow
She married James Kyle in 1892 Calton, Glasgow and I have 1901 info for them in Camlachie, Glasgow.  7 children born in Camlachie, Glasgow.  immigrated to Boston Massachusetts in late 1930's early 1940's, children too, except their eldest daughter to Canada/ Northern New York in 1919 (My line).

2) Margaret Joan Wallace born October 26, 1874 Glasgow
She married William Finlay 1897 Camlachie, Glasgow.  Seeking 1901 Census for them. 1 possible child Archibald Finlay.

3) Jessie McKinlay Wallace born July 13, 1872 Glasgow
She married Hendry Ferguson 1899 Calton, Glasgow.  Seeking 1901 Census for them.

4) William Wallace born abt. 1878   no other information known

5) John McDonald Wallace born January 21, 1885 Barony, Glasgow
He married Ellen Lannery 1908 Glasgow  John died abt 1931 in Massachusetts. Ellen and their 6 children were still in Scotland, they later went to New Zealand and Australia. I have had contact from two descendants of theirs.

6) Jane Wallace born abt 1880
I believe she is the sister listed with Elizabeth's family in 1901 since Jessie is married. no other information known.

7) Archibald Wallace born abt 1883   no other information known

8- James Wallace born abt 1890   no other information known

Any help greatly appreciated, and if any of this looks like it fits with yours please contact me.

Lanarkshire / McDonald/Paton/Miller

I have had some difficulty tracing this branch of my tree hopefully someone may help.

I am seeking the parents and death date of Archibald McDonald (b. abt 1822) who married Elizabeth Paton (1822-June 1893) daughter of John Paton and Margaret McEwan on May 17, 1846 Glasgow. Archibald survived Elizabeth but I have searched Scotland's people and cannot seem to find one that matches based on places, Elizabeth died in Govan, Glasgow.

Also looking for descendants of their children:

Margaret McDonald born abt. 1848 married William Wallace 1870 Partick, Glasgow
Jane McDonald born abt 1851 married William Miller 1874 Milton, Glasgow
Elizabeth McDonald born October 19, 1857 Milton, Glasgow
Daniel McDonald born March 9, 1855 Central District, Glasgow
Matthew McDonald born May 31, 1863 Milton, Glasgow
Alexander McDonald born March 8, 1860 Milton, Glasgow
James McDonald born April 8, 1862 Milton, Glasgow

uncertain if there are other children born between 1846 and 1855

I am a descendant of Margaret.  I know Jane had at least 3 children: Amelia born abt 1881, William born abt 1886, and James born abt 1889 from 1891 & 1901 Census and that she was widowed sometime between 1891-1901.  Also from these census I know that as of 1891 James & Matthew were still at home and unmarried. I have been unable to locate Archibald & family in any census other than 1891 in Kelvinside, Barony, Glasgow.

If any one can help me find them in other census or if any of this looks like it might connect please let me know.

Thanks.
