Hello,
I am looking for a christening at hebburn Northumberland
between 1900 and 1919. Can anyone tell me where I might
find these records?
On the Genuki site the birth records for this area
are only mentioned up to 1900.
thank you

Northumberland / stanley cottage portgate
« on: Monday 26 July 10 06:44 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know of a 'Stanley Cottage" Portgate, Hexham?
I was originally looking for Stanley Cottage in Hexham, but re reading the death record I see it is
"Stanley Cottage" Portgate Hexham.
I have found a map online that shows Portgate as a crossing on the Roman Wall near Corbridge. There is a Stanley Plantation (forest) nearby as well.
My g grandfather was a gamekeeper and according to his father in law's obituary and death record
he lived at this cottage.
I am wondering if anyone who lives in that area might know more about the cottage and where a gamekeeper in 1895 might be working. Would also love a photo of the cottage if it still exists.

Hello Margs,
re: your irregular marriages recorded in Border Papers offer.
would there possibly be mention of a John Henderson and Ann Martin who were married 29 December 1836 at Gretna Green? I presume if it is mentioned it would be the following year in January. He was from the Allendale area and she was from Haltwhistle.
Would appreciate any help.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / suicide of William Brown
« on: Friday 26 June 09 06:29 BST (UK)  »
William Brown of South Lodge, Minsteracres, Espershields committed suicide by hanging 4 Mar 1932. Inquest was held on the 5th of March 1932.
I am wondering if anyone has access to a newspaper of the area that may have carried a report?
Perhaps the Newcastle Courant, or the Hexham Courantor even a Durham newspaper? The death registration is in the Hexham reg. District, but If I google the address it shows a photo of South Lodge, Minsteracres for sale in Consett Co. Durham? Perhaps the area has changed counties at some time? Would appreciate any help.
Thank you

Cumberland / Bewcastle MI
« on: Thursday 03 July 08 02:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have seen an article by Ivor Grey,  "Is your name Nixon" in the "Bewcastle Journal" Vol 2 Dec 1994  which mentions a gravestone in the Bewcastle Churchyard.
"In the Bewcastle churchyard on the north-west side is a gravestone to a thomas Wilson of Flatt (1723-1773). The stone bears a shield with an animal like a horse, but meant to be a wolf. This Thomas Married Ann Graham of Ryehill in 1741 and ............"

There is a full list of names of monuments of the Bewcastle Churchyard on the Bewcastle website which does not list the above named Thomas Wilson. Does anyone know if the stone is there?
Thank you
