 :D Thanks for your time.
I think this address held Richard Joseph (or Joseph Richard) Toner and family from 1950 onwards. I would like to know if his occupation is listed as anything similar to Telephone Engineer, please.

Also if he can be found in earlier editions.

Thank you
Joan

Antrim / William James BRADLEY/ Catherine Mc AVOY marriage
« on: Thursday 05 November 20 10:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  ???
Two questions please, if anyone is able to assist.

Is there such a thing as a 1939 Register for NI? If there is, how can I access it, please?

I am looking for a marriage between William James BRADLEY (that is how the name is spelled on the birth certificate of their daughter Kathleen) and Catherine Mc AVOY. Kathleen was born 10 Feb 1926 and I have no idea if she had siblings. At the time of her birth, her parents were living at 11 Welsh Street and she was registered in Belfast Urban District 6.

The result of a search has given me a marriage in March 1919 In Urban No.12 R.C. between William James BRADY (not BRADLEY) and Catherine MC AVOY Registration No.1919/B1/2336/7/154
I don't understand the relevance of the numbers in that registration. Obviously, 1919 the year, and possibly B1 denotes the first quarter? As the names of the groom do not match how certain can I be that this is the couple that I am looking for? If I send for the full certificate, will it get me any nearer to my objective?

As a 2˝year +/- was allowed, I gave 1923 as the year to base the search on. After pointing out the difference in the name of the groom a second search was done based on 1926 and that still came up with only the same marriage.

This is the first time I have had occasion to delve into the records of Northern Ireland and I am not finding them easy :( so any help would be very much appreciated.

Does anyone know if a Register similar to the one for England and Wales, was produced by NI in or around that year, please? If so, where can it be found?
Thanks,

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Latin Probate
« on: Tuesday 13 October 20 09:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
This is my continuation of the translation that I have already had so much assistance with.

Attached is the Probate section in Latin of the Will of one Thomas Mortimer which I would like help with, please. I am hoping that someone can find the name of his wife in amongst the few lines below, commencing after the words "w(i)th others".

Thanks and fingers crossed,
OzzieJoan

Good morning everyone,

I have recently bought the Court Probate Record for a Will from 1592 and can read nothing more than the name of the man who I hope will turn out to be my 12xg.g.f. Can anyone please recommend a translation service that is actually in operation at the moment? It seems that both Manchester and Leeds University translation departments are down due to COVID.

Does anyone know if one of our Australian Universities have such a service?

Hopefully I will be able to attach a section of the document for reference.

Thanks,
OzzieJoan

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Son of William Mortimer of Gomersall
« on: Monday 20 January 20 06:05 GMT (UK)  »
:D Can anyone please tell me if the dates used in Parish Records from the 1600's are in Latin or Old English? I am trying to establish the date on which William, son of William Mortimer of Gomersall was baptised. I hope it says August 1631 or 1632. It is the third one down on the image attached.

Lancashire / Bigamous marriage/divorce proceedings Lancashire WAIN v LOWE
« on: Sunday 03 March 19 09:12 GMT (UK)  »
My Grand Aunt Clara Hetty (GREGORY) LOWE married Wilfred WAIN in Wigan 8c/142 June qt.1920 following the death in WWI of her husband, John Thomas LOWE.

From here it is family lore. Wilfred was still married to a lady shown here:

Groom name: Wilfred Wain
Groom age in years: 40
Groom estimated birth year: 1875
Bride name: Alice M. Keeley
Bride age in years: 38
Bride estimated birth year: 1877
Event type: Marriage
Marriage date: 19 May 1915
Marriage place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
Film number: 1030596
Digital GS number: 4272391
Image number: 89
Reference number: 695788
Collection: Illinois, Cook County Marriages 1871-1920

*************************************************************

Where would I look to find any information on a possible divorce. WAIN and Clara certainly parted company shortly after the marriage but I would like to know the circumstances, did he go to jail, or manage to flee back to the US?

Thanks, OzzieJoan
