Canada / Help locating when relative migrated to Canada
« on: Wednesday 31 May 23 14:35 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather, Matthew Ernest Guest, emigrated to Canada in 1904 on the Sicillian aged19 . He then came back during WW1 where he was a motor boat mechanic at various places around the UK, He met and married Winifred Dunstan who was from Falmouth. They married in Southampton in 1918. Matthew is then listed on the imperial gratuities as returning to Canada on  SS Adriatic on March 1st 1919. I can't find him on this passenger list or Winfred on this list or any other going to Canada.
Would he have been with returning troops at this time so would she have travelled on another ship??
They then returned to England in Nov 1920 on the Empress of France with a child. He returned to Canada on his own in January 1921 whilst Winifred stayed in Falmouth.

Any help trying to find her records would be greatly appreciated.

Canada Lookup Request / Library and archives Canada query please
« on: Friday 26 May 23 07:47 BST (UK)  »
I have recently found out, (using DNA) who my great grandfather was and would like more info on the attached jpeg. Does this mean it can only be viewed in the library which would be hard as I'm in England? Also what is "imperial freebies"? He was born in Lancashire in 1884, moved to Canada in 1904 where his parents and siblings joined him in 1906. He then served as RNVR in WW1 . Any help, gratefully received.

Many thanks

This is written beside my 2xgreat grandmother on the passenger list to Canada in 1906. She was with her children and I think her husband is listed elsewhere. I am trying to make out what is written to the right of the bracket.

Many thanks

Devon / John William Passmore, Oakford
« on: Saturday 05 September 20 09:29 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out more info on John William Passmore born 1889 in Oakford, near Tiverton. In 1901 I think he is living with John Palfrey his grandad, in Oakford although he is listed as Palfrey and not Passmore, and in 1911 is living with his uncle Lewis Palfrey and listed as Palfrey. On the GRO website his mothers maiden name is Palfrey but I have no idea who is parents are. I don't want to go down the certificate route if I can help it as I am doing the tree to fit DNA matches into .

Many thanks for reading

« on: Monday 30 September 19 21:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi.
6x great grandparents married in Inveraray and Glenaray in 1752 but I can't seem to find exactly where  :-\ The lovely churches in Inveraray weren't built until later and I can't find any reference to any earlier ones. Am I just being blind in my searches?
Thanks

Devon Lookup Requests / Marriage look up Stoke Damerel please
« on: Tuesday 28 August 18 17:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi.
I am helping a fiend with his family tree and we are stuck on an Alfred Taylor, possibly Charles as a middle name. We think we have found him on the 1851 census aged 1 living with a couple called Tuckett and he is  a nurse child. He is then on the 1861 census in the poor house aged 11. He married Claudean Buckler in 1871 in Stoke Damerel and I am wondering if someone could look up and let me have all the info from the parish register, in particular if there is fathers name for Alfred, although I think it could possibly be blank.

Many thanks for any help.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / WW1 card help please
« on: Tuesday 31 July 18 08:59 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find out info about the person who sent a few cards to my great gran in WW1. I have a few of the embroidered ones and they have been signed by Harry. In the pocket of one is this card and I can't for the life of me find a H A or Harry Farling. Am I reading his surname wrong, could it be something else? I'm, sure it also says corporal in the RAMC
My great gran lived in Cornwall and I thought perhaps this chap was also from there.
An extra pair of eyes to maybe see if the F is actually something else although I have tried just about every combination.

Thanks.

Cornwall / Truro Diocesan maternity home, Mount Prospect, Redruth
« on: Tuesday 30 January 18 15:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I am trying to pinpoint where Mount Prospect was/is in Redruth please. I understand it was a home for unmarried mothers and my great gran gave birth to my gran here in 1918 aged 17.
Also does anyone know what Parc Vean house may have been in Redruth around the same time? Was it simply a domestic house or something grander? This is the address she gave on my grans birth certificate as to where she was living at the time.

Thanks in advance
