London and Middlesex / Metropolitan Police
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 13:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Is there anywhere I can see records of the Met?

My ancester is quoted in the 1851 census as working for the Metropolitan Police
can't find him in the 1861 census
Then in the 1871 census he is listed as 'armless'

Would love to know what happened, if he lost his arms in the line of duty, and basically anything about his service in the Met.

Thanks in advance.

« on: Sunday 09 December 07 12:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for any info on John Carnell born c1853, he is my gx3 grandfather.

I can find him on the 1901 Census:

As you can see the wife's name is different in each, but both are from Birmingham, so I guess it's an error somewhere.

I would love to find out the marriage details of John, or any census pre 1891 ... well basically anything!

thanks in advance!

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Ann Munton - Kings Cliffe
« on: Monday 03 December 07 21:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help me find details of an Ann Munton?  She married John Cunnington born 1779 in Kings Cliffe on 20/08/1773.  Their first child was born in 1774 - Mary Cunnington.

I'd love to find out who her parents were so I can trace the family further back.  There were just too many Munton's in Kings Cliffe to make any guesses.

Thanks in advance!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / George Batten - Missing on 1861 Census
« on: Saturday 01 December 07 16:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I've had no luck find George Batten b1835 on the 1861 Census.

I can find him on the 1851 Census, where he is 15 years old, living on London Road in Twickenham.

and then on the 1871 Census living on Goldney Road in Kensington.

The 1871 Census lists his occupation as Metropolitan Policeofficer (at least I think that's what it says), but it also states he has no arms!   On the 1851 Census he is an errand boy, so I presume he had his arm then!!

If anyone could help me locate him in 1861 I'd be very grateful.  The facts of George:

George Batten
born 1835 in Stratford, Essex
Parents - Richard Batten and Maria
Wife - Sarah Chatterley

Thanks in advance :)

Lesley
