Lancashire / Looking for an obituary
« on: Saturday 28 January 17 22:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am hoping someone can lead me in the right direction to find an obituary and/or the name for the newspapers that would cover the area of Salford, Lancashire.
I an searching for the obituaries of-
John Joseph Fitzgerald b. 26 Dec 1900 d.1981 in Salford
Mary Fry Fitzgerald b. 13 Jul 1907 in Salford d. 1987 in Salford.

I am specifically interested in the Fry family. Mary Fry Fitzgerald's parents were Richard Fry(born and died in Salford 1883-1936) and Beatrice Pickvance. Beatrice and 2 of Mary Fry Fitzgerald's children died on 23 Dec 1940 in the bombings that happened in Salford/Manchester area.
I would like to find out if there are any surviving descendants of this family. The Fitzgeralds had one more child, a daughter born in 1943 but I don't want to post her name hoping she is still alive.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Technical Help / Microsoft Works Help
« on: Saturday 14 May 11 21:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am really hoping someone on here can help. I received a CD of records today in the mail and the person put all of the files on Microsoft Works. I don't know what version of it is but most likely 4.0.

I cannot open these files and I was hoping someone can help me convert them to a different type of file. The files end in WDB.

Thank you,

Megan

Census and Resource Discussion / Question about LDS records
« on: Thursday 29 October 09 11:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have a question on how reliable are the LDS records when they are submitted for " sealing of the dead ".

The reason why I am asking is because just recently I have discovered that someone has my family line on the LDS site and this family line goes back to 1604 England. The whole family was submitted for the " sealing ". Now I am Catholic but this family line 4 generations before me was Protestant.

I am questioning this because I cannot see or find any documentation for any of these people and I am questioning on how they got the information especially the ones for the people born in Ireland. 99% of my research is in Ireland and I know how hard it is to find records.

To see what I mean you can got to the LDS site and just type in " Lockhart Anderson". Then click on his pedigree/family

It is his mothers family line the Websters" that go back to the 1600's.

Any input on this appreciated.

Thank you,
Megan

United States of America / Michael Craugh, Ireland then Iowa ?
« on: Tuesday 22 September 09 17:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have been trying to research my gg uncle. I have him up to 1898 in Iowa and then I lose him. I am open to any ideas of places to search next as I am at a loss. Here is what I have so far -

Michael P. Creagh/Craugh b. 18 Feb 1866 in Rathdowney, Co. Laois, Ireland

Parents - Martin Creagh McGrath and Anna Frye. The father Martin was a Baker and owned a Bakery on High St. in Ballyragget.

Immigrated to US (NY) - 23 May 1887 ( this info found on naturalization papers)

Naturalized -  22 Oct 1894 in Penn Yan, New York - this is where are of the rest of the family was living.

Marriage - 13 Apr 1898 to Ida Carlotta Lyle in Marion, Linn, Iowa.

On this marriage he lists his age as 27 but he was really around 32, I think he did this because it might have been a shotgun wedding. Ida Lyle was 17 at the time and the father of the bride is listed as the witness to the marriage.

That is the last record I have for Michael. His wife Ida is listed in the 1900 US Census for Iowa. She is living with here Aunt and Uncle. She is listed as Carlotta Craugh, married 2 yrs,  born Texas.

She is also listed on the 1905 Iowa State Census as Carlotta Craugh.

But there is no sign of Michael anywhere. The only other clue I have to a timeframe of a possible death is the fact that Michael Craugh's mother dies in 1903. In her obituary, it lists Michael as living in Clinton, Iowa.

So I at least know he was alive in 1903, or the family thought he was.

Any help or ideas on where to search next would be appreciated.

Oh and before I forget, if anyone does a search , I just want to let you know that there is another Michael Craugh in Iowa at the same time as mine. This Michael is a police officer and is married to a different woman. Unfortunately not my Michael.

The only clue that I have as an occupation for my Michael is that on his marriage cert, he lists his occupation as a Baker.

Thanks,
Megan

United States of America / Berger Family of Canada then Michigan
« on: Monday 18 May 09 13:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have just found new information about my gg grandmother. Her name was -

Margaret Humes b. Circa 1848 in Canada d. Oregon

She married  circa 1870 1. John Johnston  b. NY

Had the following with John -

Mary Johnston b. circa 1870 in possibly Canada

Willis Albert Johnston b. 5 Dec 1873 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan
                                              d. 24 May 1946 New York City, New York

Margaret Humes Johnston then married a Huery Peter Berger in 1874 in Canada haven't found marriage yet.

Children with Huery -

Robert Berger - b. May 1874 in Canada d. before 1908 drowned in Keuka Lake, Penn Yan, NY

Anna Berger b. Jul 1875 in Canada possible death - Dec 1967 in Oregon
Anna married a George King in Michigan

Rose E. Berger b. Sept 1876 in Canada d. possibly Bend, Oregon
Rose married a William John Coleman and they are living in Bend in 1920

Francis Samuel Berger, b Jul 1885 in Loo, Michigan died before the 1920 Census.

Francis married an Eleanor McKenzie on 2 Feb 1908 in Agloma District, Canada. His widow is living with her sister in law Rose E Coleman in Bend Oregon in the 1920 Census.

My questions-

I cannot find any of Margaret Humes and Huery Berger's children  in the 1910 Census.

Also can't find any in the 1930 Census except Rose Berger Coleman and husband.

Next question is does anyone know of a good site to search for death records in Oregon and Michigan.

Also birth and marriage records for Canada.

I have ancestry, but I can only find information dating up to 1930. If anyone has any other sources I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Megan
