Yorkshire (West Riding) / Mills, dance halls and pubs in Bradford 1889 - 1920
« on: Monday 11 January 16 11:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have a recording of my grandmother speaking about her youth.  She mentions mills, dance halls and pubs that I can't find on the internet and wondered if anyone could suggest some web sites to check out.  She was born in 1879 and started work part time at 10.  She talks about Christopher (Kit) Ward mill and Servants dance hall amongst others. Some help would be great, thanks

My uncle has recently died amongst his possessions is a silver medal which is engraved, on the back, Bingley S.F.A Final 1939.
I assume it's school football as he would be around 14 then but I am unable to trace any information.  Is anyone able to point me in the right direction, thanks

World War One / Return of WW1 Medal
« on: Wednesday 15 January 14 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
I have a WW1 medal engraved A Briggs Northumberland Fusilers and wondered if anyone was looking for someone with the same name.  I'm not even sure how it came to be in the family's possession.

I posted this in 2012 but no one claimed the medal so I thought I'd try again.

Sandymc 47 found Albert Briggs of the Northumberland Fusiliers

Ady said could be Albert E Briggs.

Would love to be able to reunite it with his family

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Turner family, Bradford Census lookup please
« on: Thursday 29 August 13 11:46 BST (UK)  »
I am searching into my husband's family

His grandfather was Joseph Turner born around 1861 Horton in Bradford.  On 1871 census his parents are John and Mary Turner living at 20 Crossley Steet, Horton.

Joseph married Kate Jameson on 19.05.1888 at Bradford Cathedral, her parents are John R Jameson and Jane from Hutton Cranswick.

I wondered is anyone would look at the 1871 census for the Jameson family and/or the 1861 for both families.

Many thanks
Judith

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / William Young - marriage query
« on: Friday 19 July 13 14:15 BST (UK)  »
My g g grandad William Young was born in Bilton around 1780.

According to the Latter Day Saints web site there is one entry for William Young christened in Bilton on 3 Sept 1870, father also William

There are two entries for a marriage between William and Hannah Brown, one on 6 November 1803 and the other on 9 November 1803.  Could this just be a mis-reading of the date?

Also I cannot find a date of death for William.  He appears on the 1851 census in Bilton but not on the 1861 census.  This just shows Hannah (widow) in Bilton with 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren.

Any suggestions anyone??
thanks
Judith
