hi there

Can anybody help me locate a grave of ALAN BLACKBURN born 1865 in Glasgow, Scotland, died 1925. He was husband of Esther MacLaren and son of Hugh Blackburn.

I'm in the UK so if anybody finds it and is willing to send me a photo I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks

World War Two / Merchant Navy - help with boat info please
« on: Wednesday 28 November 07 08:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I have a relative who I found on the CWGC - he died  in 1944 on or in SS Portsea (Hull). He was a radio officer.

I've googled SS portsea but not really found anything. I just want to get a bit more background on him. Was SS portsea a boat/ship or merely a place in Hull.

Any info would be most welcome.
Many thanks.

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage Allegations 1674 -1770
« on: Thursday 06 September 07 14:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi Jane

Any chance you could look up the surname Hulse for me - particularly looking in the Southwark/Bermondsey area, with a view to finding parents of Job Hulse born circa 1799.

Possibility his parents could be John & Mary.

Many thanks

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / St Saviour Southwark - baptisms and marriage
« on: Thursday 06 September 07 14:38 BST (UK)  »
hi all

Can anybody point me in the right direction to find baptisms for this family:

Job & Mary Hulse nee Bennett (married 1826, Bermondsey)
Issue that I know of:
Mary 1827
Job 1829
Sarah 1831
William 1834
John 1839

I would love to know more about Job senior - he was a cheesemonger according to his daughters marriage certificate, but as he died before the census in 1841 I haven't been able to find anything out about him. I have a suspicion that he was the son of John & Mary, as their burial records give the same address as him - Guildford Street. He was born approx 1799 - can anybody help?

Kindest wishes

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Lambeth Trade Directory circa 1840
« on: Wednesday 28 February 07 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
I've had no luck tracing my family in 1841 census for Lambeth so thoughht someone may be able to help me with a trade directory lookup or point me in the right direction to do it myself.

Thomas Turner, Carpenter/Turner/Cabinet Maker - he was born in Bexted, Sussex but had a child (George) in Lambeth in 1828, and was also in Lambeth for the 1851 census.

If anybody could help, it would be much appreciated.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Can anyone help - Oxford Street c. 1800
« on: Thursday 22 February 07 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Here's something a bit different. My grandfather ( a few generations back) used to own (or lease) a butchers shop at 279, Oxford Street. I believe this is now where either John Lewis or Selfridges is. I've been trying without joy, to find a picture of it - can anyone help? It would mean so much to me to actually see the shop and I feel sure one exists somewhere.

For reference, my relatives name was Henry Rendell and I have him in 1841, 1851, and 1861 at the shop and am sure he was there before that!

Looking forward to receiving any advice.

Sussex Lookup Requests / TULLY in Bexted
« on: Friday 08 September 06 08:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I'm drawing a complete blank on any information relating to the Tully's in Sussex. Nobody seems to be researching them.

My relation was born around 1789 in Bexted according to the 1851 census, his name was Thomas TULLY and he was a chairmaker.

He married a Susannah SHARVILL/SHARVEL, who came from Sevenoaks in Kent. I haven't found them in the 1841 census, but in 1851 and 1861 they were living in Southwark in Surrey. They have one son that I know about, George Sharvill TULLY born in Lambeth in 1828 - I'm posting this on the Surrey site also, in the hope that somebody can find them in 1841, but was hoping that somebody might be able to give me some leads in Sussex.

Kindest reards
Lewy
