Warwickshire / Where was George in 1911?
« on: Tuesday 05 March 24 11:53 GMT (UK)  »
There are many records to prove that George William Morecock (1902-1981) was born, lived and died in Birmingham yet I can't find him on the 1911 census despite having tried every mutation of the name that I can think of. Please can anyone see what I am missing or maybe someone with access to the 1921 census can find him there?
What I'm actually looking for are the names of his parents.

Thanks in anticipation,

Keith

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Joseph Perkins and Ann Elizabeth Linfordm Sheffield
« on: Monday 22 January 24 21:52 GMT (UK)  »
In Birmingham and Sheffield between 1900 and 1909 Joseph Perkins, born Birmingham, sired three children with Ann Elizabeth Linford, nee Latham also of Birmingham, wife of Charles Linford.

The births were as follows:

20 Feb 1900 Annie Elizabeth Perkins, in Birmingham
8 Mar 1905 John William Perkins, in Sheffield
18 May 1909 Doris Perkins Linford, also in Sheffield.

There were so many Joseph Perkins births in Birmingham in the 1860s that we cannot provide a definite birth for Joseph but by 1905 he was living in Sheffield with Ann Elizabeth Linford. Nor can we find a divorce record for Charles Linford and Ann Elizabeth or a death record for Joseph Perkins. We do know that Ann Elizabeth returned to Linford by about 1920.
Please can anyone help?

Warwickshire / What happened to Joseph Parsons?
« on: Sunday 21 January 24 20:22 GMT (UK)  »
Ann Elizabeth Latham (1866-1948) married Charles Linford (1865-1942) in their home town, Birmingham, in July 1884. By 1897 they had 5 children.
However, by 1900 Ann had produced a daughter, Annie Elizabeth (20 Feb 1900) sired by one Joseph Perkins, another Birmingham resident. By 1905 Ann Elizabeth and Joseph were living together in Sheffield, where on 8 March 1905 she produced another of Joseph’s children, this time a son, John William (1905-1997). On 18 May 1909 Ann Elizabeth produced a third seemingly illegitimate child whose birth she registered as Doris Perkins Linford, still in Sheffield but this time without a father’s name on the certificate.
Meanwhile in 1898 Charles Linford had married a widow, Elizabeth Jane Parsons, nee Jones, who appears with him in 1911.
By 1921 Ann Elizabeth appears to be back in Birmingham, where she is recorded as E Annie Linford (65), once more wife of Charles, alongside daughter Doris, born Sheffield 1909. She is definitely Charles’s first wife because the 1939 Register of England and Wales records the couple as living in Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire, naming her as Annie E Linford and quoting her correct date of birth.
We have been unable to identify a death record for Elizabeth Jane Jones Linford or any further information on Joseph Perkins.
Please can anyone help to solve this puzzle?

Warwickshire / Richard Linford c.1810, Birmingham
« on: Tuesday 06 June 23 22:32 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone provide any information on the above? Everything I currently believe is speculative.
He appears to have married Hannah Burgess(born c,1809) The 1841 census shows what I believe to be them living in Nelson St., Birmingham with a few kids all of whom have disappeared by 1861 when they seem to have been living in Barr St., Hockley with children as follows: Albert (1844), James (1846), Jesse (1850), George (1850), Charles (1854) and David (1859). After that I can find no further reference.
If my information is correct Richard is a policeman in 1841 but got done for larceny at some later date.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Warwickshire / Jessie Isobel Sanders (1907-2000) and family
« on: Thursday 08 September 22 17:12 BST (UK)  »
Whilst walking through the graveyard at Christ Church, Yardley Wood, Birmingham recently I came across a magnificent and obviously expensive headstone dedicated to Elizabeth Sanders (1881-1947), her husband Howard (1876-1958) and their daughter Jessie (1907-2000). As we have Sanders on our tree I photographed the stone for later research. So far as I can tell we are not connected to that family but before I delete the image I wonder whether anyone would like a copy, showing precise death dates in each case. If so, please pm me with an email address to which a copy may be sent.

Australia / Convict George Chatterley
« on: Wednesday 13 April 22 16:02 BST (UK)  »
George Chatterley (29 Nov 1779 to 18 Sep 1822) was my third great grandfather. He was convicted at Warwick Assizes, England, on 2 Aug 1817 of possessing counterfeit currency and sentenced to transportation to Australia for 14 years, arriving in Sydney on 30 April 1818, from where he was transferred to Hobart, VDL, where he arrived on 11 Jun 1818. he died there on 18 Sep 1822 and was buried at St David's, Hobart two days later.

I know absolutely nothing of his time in Hobart and would be most grateful to anyone who can provide me with any information, no matter how seemingly small or insignificant.

Thanks in advance,

Keith

The Lighter Side / Birth registration D/65
« on: Friday 04 February 22 12:30 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst looking up a birth registration on FreeBMD I came across two registrations for the sam person, one quoting the usual reference of folio and page, the other quoting the folio followed by the words "SEE D/65". Please can anyone tell me what such a reference means?
