Canada / Slee Family Mannville Alberta and BC
« on: Wednesday 02 August 06 15:34 BST (UK)  »
Does any body know anything about Harriet and Walter Slee who moved from Barry South Wales to Mannville Alberta somewhere in the early 20th century. The only reason that I know they moved is a google search that produced a query from one of their descendants. Unfortunatly this was about 5 years ago and I cannot make contact now. I cannot find the Slees in the 1911 census.

Mannville when they moved must have been real frontier land and as inexperienced farmers they must have moved on to BC quite fast.

Anybody heard of the Slees?

Norfolk / COZENS - Drayton Norfolk
« on: Sunday 30 July 06 08:43 BST (UK)  »
I am new to research in Norfolk and wonder if somebody could set me in the right direction.
My family come from Drayton and when I search directly on the LDS Family search I do find relevant individuals but cannot find a link for Drayton on the batch site searches. Does Drayton come a under a different parish?

Thanks
Jane

Glamorganshire / St Albans on the Moors Cardiff
« on: Friday 02 December 05 06:13 GMT (UK)  »
I have a number of marriage certificates from the 1920s and 30 from this RC church but cannot find it. As most of the people concerned lived in Roath, Splott etc I presume it was literally on the moors.
Was it destroyed in the war does anyone know? It doesn't seem to be mentioned in anything I can find

The Common Room / Advice 0n ordering certificate
« on: Wednesday 19 October 05 12:38 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on ordering a certificate.
I have been looking for either the birth or death of Ellen Rees in the Haverfordwest district and eventually found the handwrtten entry for Helen Rees in June 1853 Haverfordwest 11a 1853. I sent off for the certificate but received a refund as they were unable to find the entry in 1859!. I contacted the office who apologised for their mistake  said they had found the certificate and said it would be sent immediatly. A month later having  received nothing I contavted them again and was told mail took a while to reach Canada(usually their service is about 10 days and excellent). Then another e mail arrived saying they had rechecked and this entry was incorrect and when they checked with the Pembrokeshire office there was no entry for Helen Rees only Heber Rees so they would re fund more money.

With my head reeling from this does anyone have any suggestions. If I send for this certificate for Heber Rees they will tell me this entry does not exist on their lists.

Also why would they go to the trouble of contacting Pembrokeshire rather than send me what ever entry they had for that reference

Glamorganshire / Traffic Accident 1944
« on: Tuesday 06 September 05 06:14 BST (UK)  »
I was told that mygreat grandmother died after being hit by a car during the blackout in Cardiff in 1944. Her death certificate suggests that this is the case as she died of a head injury. Does anybody know if it will be possible to locate any more information? I am certain that had this not occured in wartime it would have been reported in the local paper but did they write about such local affairs at that time with paper shortages? Also is this the sort of event that would have required a coroners inquest.

Any thoughts gratefully received

Pembrokeshire / Ellen Rees from Dale
« on: Thursday 25 August 05 23:02 BST (UK)  »
I would like to find this lady's death certificate as I am trying to pin down some information about her parents and siblings. As the rest of them have names such as William, Sarah and John and I have only vague dates of birth from them the possibilities of ordering the correct certificates are remote. Ellen I thought had greater possibilities especially when I found she was buried in Dale Churchyard 6th January 1885 age 31. However I cannot find her death registered. There are no Ellen/Eleanor/ Helen Rees registered at that time. The closest I found was March 1887.

Does any body have any suggestions?

If only I could find more information I could then track down some birth certificates and hopefully the parents marriage.

Monmouthshire / St Woolos Newport
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 01:36 BST (UK)  »
I am a little confused as to what defines this area in Newport. Is it a separate area or is/was it part of Newport itself. I understand the main church is St Woolos so is it just the area that surrounds the church? Many thanks for any enlightenment
