Cheshire / Congleton or Biddulph address
« on: Thursday 23 November 17 14:22 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestors were from Biddulph and Congleton.  On 1861 census they lived in Congleton.  Thomas Hall died in 1865.  The death certificate shows New Road, Biddulph as place of death.  I cannot find  "New Road" today and wonder if it disappeared or was renamed. His family were living in Congleton on the 1871 census.  Could the death place be somewhere other than their home during this period.  I saw that Biddulph Grange was a hospital at one time but that was later.  Has anyone heard of New Road Biddulph.  I recently came up to Congleton and most of the addresses recorded in my notes are still there, havent been to Biddulph yet.  Also does anyone know where the forges were in Congleton around 1861

Lancashire / Census - name changes Mattimore
« on: Sunday 15 October 17 15:33 BST (UK)  »
I have been doing my family tree for many years but keep going back checking names.  I check between census entries and births/deaths details.  This is a strange one. I have Michael Mattimore in Boothstown Lancashire 1851.  Cannot find the family in 1861 but he died in Oct/Dec 1865 Westleigh. Wife Catherine died 1863.  Now in 1861 I do find a George married to Catherine in Westleigh with children of same name.  There is a death for George and he died in October 1865.  I think this may be the same person.  Also have Timothy Mattimore in 1851 in Boothstown not on any other census year, but there is a family of Edward(Shady) Mattimore all the children have the same names so I am thinking Timothy became Edward.  Does this sound feasible.  I have spent hours on this - there are no deaths for the ones that disappeared and it is very odd that both have children with same names born around same time

« on: Sunday 07 August 16 21:59 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the death of a John Kilallea before 1855.  I have found one in Kiltormer June1852 from Ireland Landed Estate Court Files.  It has a document and volume number.  Does this mean there will be a death certificate and if so, where could I get a copy

Lancashire / ONLINE PRISON RECORDS
« on: Friday 05 December 14 17:36 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if more information can be obtained from historic prison records as the ones online only show the town ie Manchester, age of person etc.  I would have thought an address or even a town would have been recorded somewhere, thanks

Galway / KELLY/KILLALEA GALWAY & ENGLAND
« on: Monday 24 November 14 18:35 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to trace my Killalea ancestors back to Galway for years and come to a brick wall.  The first entry in England actually stated them as Kelly and not Killalea.  So I have started to search under Kelly.  I only know of Michael born around 1835 and sister Bridget born 1838 both in Galway.  The father JOhn was deceased in 1855 when Michael married.  I have just found RootsIreland and have found some Kellys where there is a Bridget of the right birth year and a Michael with a couple of years out.  As the father is John one would expect a sibling John and there is one with this John and the same mother Mary Spelman along with a couple of other siblings in Castlegar.  Could this be the ones I am searching for.  I have also searched for a death for the father John before 1855 and have found one in 1845 in Castlegar but unfortunately there is no informant name of spouse name.  Does anyone know if these records actually mirror the actual ones and why would there not be an informant.  As Kelly is a common name, what are the chances of these being the ones I am looking for, thanks

I have found an entry on familysearch for John Smith b. 1835 Galway.  "Military service" 1853-1857, there is a GS film number and digital folder number.  Is this record likely to show more details about this man and how do I get to see it, cheers mbee

Lancashire / WIGAN 1851 census Michael Smith
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 22:44 BST (UK)  »
According to this census Michael and family were living at Union Street/Kerfoot Place Wigan, lodger. There are a number of people living there.  I have searched for this address and cannot find anything.  Am I to assume this is a lodging house and not a workhouse, cheers
