Ireland / Patrick FORBES
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 05:20 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a Patrick FORBES from Ireland who emigrated to Sydney Australia in 1852 aboard the Lady Kennaway. I know it's a long shot. I believe he went to Plymouth to board the ship. He had a wife, Jane and 2 or 4 children. Two of the children may have died before he left Ireland.
I did try the web page that "your pete" suggested but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ellenor

Does anyone have any information about this asylum? I have an ancestor have all her children there. The name is Margaret Martill/Martell/Marttil formerly Hughes. Her husband was John Martill/Martell/Marttil. The child I am tracing is their daughter Gladys/Gwladys born 9 March 1897. There were apparently another nine children born there from those parents. Any help would be appreciated.

Oxfordshire / Wadsworths of Chalgrove

Jonathan WADSWORTH born 2 April 1859 married Elizabeth Margaret HARWOOD (born 1862) on 30 December1878 in the Parish Church Warborough. They were on a boat on 5 January 1879 for Adelaide Australia. Her father was George HARWOOD. Jonathan's parents were Jonathan WADSWORTH (born 2 July 1820 Chalgrove) and Ann BUCKNER(born 12 August 1822 Blewbury) They were married 28 October 1848 in Benson. Her parents were William BUCKNER and Mary ?. His parents were William WADSWORTH and Lydia BURTON. I believe William and Lydia had a boy, William before they were married. Then as well as Jonathan and William, they had Ann born 19 August 1818.
All males seemed to be ag labs.  I have census details but would love to find out more about their life pre 1841.

Pembrokeshire / Childs of St Issells
« on: Wednesday 28 May 08 10:59 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather was a John Childs. However I believe he was illegitimate and born as a John Davies on 4 October 1847 in Coalpit Hall St Issells. His mother was Anna Francesca Davies. On his wedding certificate on 20 April 1869 when he married Ellenor Gwyther at Narberth he named his father as John Childs, and married as John Childs.
On the 1851 Census he is John Childs aged 3. Can't find him on 1861 census, although found one or two of both names (Childs and Davies). Not sure which is correct. By 1871 he is married and living in Bedwelty MON. In 1881 they are living in Glyncorrwg GLAM.
I am trying to find John Childs/Davies father. Any help would be appreciated as I seem to have hit a brickwall.

Carmarthenshire / Gwythers of Narberth
« on: Wednesday 28 May 08 10:29 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on William Gwyther  and his family of Narberth. He was a cordwainer and lived in Spring Gardens. His first wife was Sophia Evans. She died 1840 after the birth of their third child Peregrine. Their first two children were Margaret born 1836 and Mary born 1838. He then married Mary Evan from Llandewi Velfrey and they had William 1843, Sarah 1844, Sophia 1847, Ellenor 1850 and John 1860. I believe Peregrine married Eliza Ann Phillips in 1864 in Narberth. Sarah married Thomas Jenkins in 1868 and Ellenor married John Childs in 1869. I have census records and birth and marriage details but was wondering who William may have worked for in Narberth as a cordwainer as I can't find any record of him in business for himself. I am also looking for a connection for Sophia and Mary (with similar surnames), as William's mother-in-law lived with him for several censuses even afte rhis marriage to Mary. Makes me think they may have been sisters. But can't confirm. I also believe William came from either Manorbier, Pembroke or Tenby. Have found a similar family (naming system) in Tenby and Pembroke. the info I have is that James Gwyther married Mary John on 20 Oct 1812 at St Marys Tenby. Their first child thomas John was bapt there on 25 Aug 1813. George was bapt 31 July 1815 in St Marys pembroke, William bapt 28 May 1817 St Marys Pembroke, James bapt 25 April 1819 St Marys Pembroke, and Mary bapt 8 Sept 1820 St Marys Pembroke. They were living at the Commons St Marys Pembroke.
William married both Sophia in Narberth and Mary in Llandewi Velfrey.
Any help would be great. Thanks eaw52
