Antrim / Ballymoney Lookup Request
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 00:41 BST (UK)  »
Looking for contents of Ballymoney Vol 2 Page 279.  Marriage William J. Atkinson and Elizabeth Chestnut.  Interested in date, Church, Residence and Parents of either.

If not too much trouble, need children of these parents confirmed:  Robert James Atkinson and Ellen Atkinson.  Born before civil registration, so I can't find them.  Need birth years, townland, church.

Thank you for any help you can provide.  Visiting in September, and would like to know that these really are my great-grandparents.  I have their names confirmed from my own research.  Just need places and links to earlier ancestry.  Thank you very much.

Family History Beginners Board / Birth Certificate terminology
« on: Sunday 01 February 09 01:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have two English Birth Certificates that list the mother's name as Annie Jackson, formerly Tinsley.  Am I to assume that Tinsley is her maiden name, or does the word "formerly" have a significance  - that is to say that she may have been married before to a Tinsley, but that Tinsley is not her maiden name.  Hope this is clear.  If her maiden name were Tinsley, would it say "born Tinsley" or something like that?  There is no clearly defined field for "maiden name". Appreciate advice from someone more experienced.

Tyrone / where is aghacolumb - COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 20 November 08 14:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have some civil records showing my Ferguson ancestor's "address" as Aghacollum and Aughacillum.  Would it be your opinion that these are all just different spellings of the same place?  The parish/district is given as Stewartstown in the first case and Cookstown in the second.

I have also found Aghacolumb on a list of Townlands and maps elsewhere on rootsweb.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me whether this place (Aghacolumb) still exists today and if anyone knows of any photos of the area.

I am the researcher with the 100 year old mother about to celebrate her birthday.  She very much wants to know where her mother was born.  Thanks always for your help.

Tyrone / Presbyterian churches in Tyrone
« on: Wednesday 08 October 08 01:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am researching the family names Ferguson, Fleming, and Norris in Co Tyrone.  I do not have a place name.  I do know that they were Presbyterian.  Are there many many Presbyterian religious parishes in the county or just a few?  I run into church records from time to time and do not know how much time to spend in them.  Thanks.

I am looking for Annie Ferguson, born 1866 approx, and emigrated to US 1885 approx.  She was likely to have been Methodist.  I have only my mother's recollections that she spoke about County Armagh.  Any leads would be appreciated

Family History Beginners Board / Age rounding 1901 census
« on: Friday 06 June 08 00:13 BST (UK)  »
I am a beginner, but have spent about two months starting a family history for my family with almost no firm information.  I am working on a roadblock in the 1901 census for Co. Durham.  Can anyone tell me if it was common to round ages up in that census?  I have two people who "should be" my ancestors in every other respect, but they are the wrong age.  This is my first post, so please excuse if I have posted in the wrong place.  Thank you in advance.
