Durham / Southwick, Durham
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 02:10 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody out there tell me if "Waterloo Place" and "Waterloo Street" in Southwick, Durham, England are the same street please? Not to be confused with the two seperate streets in Bishop Wearmouth.

I ask because the first page of the census index says that "Waterloo Street" will be covered and I've been through the whole census booklet with no sign of a "Waterloo Street" but it has entries for "Waterloo Place" which isn't mentioned on the first page of the census book.

Then sometime around 1891 "Waterloo Place" appears to be missing from the census and "Waterloo Street" is named instead. But it's between the same streets in the census return as "Waterloo place" was in earlier census returns.

Can anybody confirm they are the same place or point me in the right direction for "Waterloo Street" in the 1861-1871 census, England

Wondering if anybody knows the location of the graves that used to be in the graveyard at this church? It had a lot more character before the church changed it into a lawn.

Durham Lookup Requests / Whitburn Durham request
« on: Monday 06 April 09 19:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Does anybody have the parish records for Whitburn, Durham?? I have the ancestry world package and they are not part of the parish collections. IGI lists the people I am interested in but I need a location for the father if one exsists.

I've read that Whitburn records only list the males in the registers but IGI has a name for the mother??

I'm looking for information on William Wilkinson given wife on IGI is Isabella.  I'd like to know where William was native of. I know he had a daughter Ann Wilkinson in St Andrews, Newcastle christening 08 Apr 1781. I'd also like to figure out Isabella's surname. There is an Isabella Robinson who married a William Wilkinson at whitburn but the marriage took place after the birth of Ann in Newcastle.

Durham Lookup Requests / Help with lookup!!!!
« on: Monday 14 July 08 17:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Could you please help with a lookup in durham?

The person in Question is Margaret McMahon, Possible spelling variation McMann.

Margaret would have been born ABT 1848 from the census findings in Southwick, Durham. Most likely her Parish record will come under Monkwearmouth.

I have her father as Edward McMann in the 1881 census bn Ireland. She married William Wilkinson and became Margaret Wilkinson.

I am looking to verify the name of her mother.

Here is some possible census matches for Margaret.

1851 Census
Southwick (Probably Stafford Street)
Mary Ann Taylor Head Unmarried 45 Lodging House b Durham Bishopswearmouth
Mary W Taylor Dau 19 Unmarried b Durham Southwick
Margaret McMahon Dau 4 b Durham Southwick
Edward McMahon Lodger Unmarried 35 Quarryman b Ireland

Ref HO107  2398 f 494

1861 Census
Gascoigne Place, Southwick
Mary Ann Taylor Lodger Wid 55 b Durham Bishopswearmouth
Edward McMann Lodger Unmarried 48 Limestone Quarrier b Ireland
Margaret McMann Lodger 15 b Southwick b Durham Southwick

Ref is RG9  3781 f 51

She was married to William Wilkinson in the 1881 census. Confirms her age as being born  ABT 1848 Southwick. The only thing that looks sensible so far is Mary Ann Taylor might have been her mother but I am looking for confirmation.

Thanks to anyone who has the time and patience to do this lookup.

Family History Beginners Board / Hello and can you help????
« on: Wednesday 25 June 08 05:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am new to the forum and fairly new to family history searches. I was wondering if anyone could set me on the right path??

I really want to trace my surname back a little and see what I can come up with but I have very limited knowledge or information to get me started.

I am looking to trace the family of my great grandfather/grandmother.

Being the surname Wilkinson and coming from co durham does not help me much. I know my great grandfather and grandmothers names. If anyone can help me get some information to track there parents names you would make my day.

Thomas E Wilkinson born 1892 or 93 in sunderland I believe.

MARRIED

Rebecca Lathan born around same time.

They were both born and  married in sunderland co durham i believe.

Thanks in advance for any replies

John
