« on: Tuesday 29 September 20 12:46 BST (UK)  »
I just don't seem to be able to find any census information on this family, so am asking for your help if I may.

I am trying to research Joyce Rosina Louise MARTIN, b. 10.12.1925. and d. 6.10.2006.  but I can't seem to find any census records for her / her parents / grandparents.  Can you help at all ?

Joyce R.L. MARTIN married Jack BURRON on 9.9.1950.

Parents of Joyce R.L. MARTIN.....Rose (?Rosina) possible birth 14.05.05.and Fred MARTIN possible birth 27.09.03.  They had a number of children, Joyce Rosina Louise, Fred, Horrace, Lilian, Rose, Betty, John, Arthur, Derek, Marie and George.

I just can't find any census records to show me that I'm on the right track, with the right Joyce Rosina Louise MARTIN....apart from the 1939 "census" record.

Europe / CONAN CHARLES / CHARLES CONAN from FRANCE
« on: Saturday 15 July 17 11:17 BST (UK)  »
My cousin (*) (born in 1943) is trying to find out information about her father, who was French.  He was not married to her mother, but a very frequent "visitor".

My cousin (*) believes he was a seaman, who had something to do with the French resistance in WW2.  As they Lived in Liverpool, a big sea port at the time, it makes sense.  My hubby, who is older, but a child himself at the time (who lived with (*) and her mum for quite a while), thinks he may have been a merchant seaman, because when ever my hubby saw him, he was never in a uniform.....so maybe a merchant seaman or maybe as (*) says, working with the resistance.

When (*)'s mother died a few years ago, she found an old envelope in her handbag and also a short "love note", which her mother had kept since (*) was a tiny baby !  The address on the old envelope was CONAN CHARLES, c/o 39 Rue Du Dr Maguan, Sursenes Seine, Paris.....the writing is hard to decipher, so the spelling may be wrong.  Her mother must have kept it as her contact address for him.
Maybe he was a lodger at this address, although (*) seems to think that he might have been living there  with his mother.

Would her father's name have been Conan Charles.....or Charles Conan ?  He was known by the name of Charlo, maybe a nickname, which is what (*)'s mother always called him.

At 74, (*) now has this great urge to know who her father was.  Maybe he was married when he was having an affair in Liverpool with her mother.  Maybe (*) has half brothers or sisters.

We just don't have a clue as to where to start looking !!!!!!  PLEASE can you help or advise us....or maybe you might be able to throw some light on this and be able to find some information.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / JEACOCK
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 14:33 BST (UK)  »
Please, can anyone help me with the original birthplace, if the census says "British Subject by Parentage"

I am trying to find out the original birthplace of  Frank Jeacock and his wife Effie Jeacock.

The 1911 census gives Frank's birthplace as Stoke Lyne, Oxfordshire
and
Effie as Silverstone, Northants.  BOTH are listed as "British Subject by Parentage".

I THINK Frank's parents were William Jeacock and Margaret I.

Can anyone tell me where they were born ?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / William Edgar JONES and Alfred Sidney JONES
« on: Monday 24 April 17 11:53 BST (UK)  »
I am going nuts looking for information about these two brothers, who were in fact my maternal uncles.

Can anyone help me to find the names (before marriage) of their marriage partners......date of their marriage(s).....date of death(s).....etc., etc.  Also, did they have any children ?

William Edgar JONES was born about 1906 (he was 5 on 1911 census) in Bermondsey, London.
His wife's name was Gladys I believe.

Alfred Sidney JONES was born about 1910 (he was 1 on 1911 census) in Blackfriars, London. His wife was known as Cissy (and quite possibly, Wilmott).

Parents:  Emily Jones (nee Lines) b. 1875 St. Albans, Hertfordshire.
John Alfred Jones b. 1861  Frindsbury, Kent.
Siblings:  Albert
               Louisa
               John

This information is as far as I can get !  Please can anyone help me with a few details about these two brothers.

Hertfordshire / Does anyone know this place in St Albans ?
« on: Tuesday 29 November 16 16:32 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out if my maternal grandmother was actually born in St Albans workhouse.....here is the St Albans address on her birth certificate, but am unsure of the name of the "Yard".

It looks like it could be Hert's Yard.....or Kent's Yard.  My grandmother was born in 1875.

I can't seem to find out how to copy her birth certificate on here for you to see.

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / EMILY DEELEY born 1875
« on: Friday 11 November 16 15:45 GMT (UK)  »
Please can you advise me as to how to find out where my maternal grandmother was buried.

I was always given to believe that she was buried in the churchyard at St. Helen's Church, Wheathampstead (close to the surrounding wall).  I visited the church and they didn't know of Emily Deeley being buried there !  Maybe she doesn't have a headstone, as I know my family didn't have much money in those days.

I'm at a loss.  I looked on line at Hertfordshire cemetery burial listings, but can't find anything.

My grandmother died in St. Albans Hospital on 12th February 1955.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / COLEBOURN (Liverpool)
« on: Sunday 21 February 16 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
Please can you advise me how I find out if my husband has any family still living from his father's siblings.....or, as to whether any of them had any children ?

My hubby's father was WILLIAM PERCY COLEBOURN, born in Liverpool, April 1904.  He was  a professional boxer and died in 1935 through being "punch drunk", when my husband was only 11 months old.  My husband knows little more than that about his dad !

My hubby's grandparents were: Percy Colebourn born 1880 and Letitia Hewitt 1882 both born in Liverpool

His father's siblings, as follows, were all born in Liverpool too......

Dorothy Colebourn
Thomas A. Colebourn born 1910
Stanley Colebourn born 1911
Hilda Colebourn born 1920
Mabel Colebourn born 1929

Except for my hubby's father, we don't know which year anyone else died (only their birth year) or whether they were married and had any children.

Kent Lookup Requests / John Thomas Jones
« on: Tuesday 06 May 14 16:04 BST (UK)  »
This is a long running saga, for which I apologise.

Would anyone be able to tell me anything about John Thomas Jones ?  When he was born ? Where he was born ?  Where he was living ?  Was he married ?  Anything at all ?  Maybe he just had an affair with my great grandmother Lucy Martin.

I found the name of my great grandfather on the wedding certificate of his son's first marriage, before his son met my grandmother.

My great grandfather's name was John Thomas Jones and according to his son's first marriage certificate of 26.10.1896. he was an engine driver and also deceased at the time of his son's marriage in 1896.

My grandfather's name was John Alfred (Thomas) Jones and he married his first wife, Elizabeth Varney in The Chapel of Ease of Holy Trinity, Parish of all Saints, Wandsworth, London.

My grandfather was illegitimate, born in Frindsbury, Strood, Kent on 14.2.1861. and there was no father's name on his birth certificate, so he was registered under his mother's name, John Alfred MARTIN.  His mother (my great grandmother) was Lucy Martin, born 1833 Bognor, Sussex.  My great grandmother changed his name to John Alfred Jones when he was about 10 years old.  I always wondered if maybe his birth father was called Jones and it looks like I was correct.

Now that I have the name of my great grandfather, can anyone there help me to find any more details ?

Soooo sorry about the name being Jones and also similar....and confusing !  Hope I've given you enough information.

I've posted this in the Kent section, only because of my grandfather being born in Kent.  Maybe my great grandfather lived near by ?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Samuel Shep MILLER
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 22:38 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone help.

I am trying to trace Samuel Shep MILLER, who was born in or around Leeds, in I believe 1895.  I believe Samuel could have served in WW1.  Samuel later went to Buffalo, New York, where he married Bessie Ruth (not sure of maiden name).  They had a son, Seymour, born around 1940 and a daughter, both born in N.Y.

Samuel's parents were Rose and Jacob (Jewish and could have been born in Poland).

Please can you help at all ?
