Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Help with dating photos
« on: Monday 21 January 13 19:36 GMT (UK)  »
The photos do not have any writing on the back, such as photographer or town.

They were possibly taken in South West England.

Any help appreciated.

Sligo / McNiffe surname and variants
« on: Monday 09 April 12 21:03 BST (UK)  »
My Michael McNiffe was born in Co. Sligo about 1800 and his children and their approx. birth years were:

James 1825, William 1830, Stenson 1838, Jane 1845, Timothy 1847, Philip 1848.

I know that people sometimes changed their surnames in the 1800's and Mcniffe
might have been McNiff, MacNiffe, Cunniff, Cunniffe , Cunnliffe, or MacConduibh.

Have I any chance of finding when my Michael was born or who he married ?

Probably not an easy one to answer, but any thoughts would be most welcome.

Thomas Rowe was born 29 Dec 1667 in Constantine.

Could his wife have been Jane Toyet, born 1670  or Avis Roberts, born 1689 ?

Any help would be appreciated.

who also emigrated to New Zealand possibly between 1930 and 1950.

Down / George Thompson, Moira
« on: Sunday 13 November 11 21:18 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather's brother George was born 27 Feb 1869 in Moira and probably baptised
in Moira CoI Parish Church, a son of John Thompson and Mary ( Hawthorn ).

I am unable to find a marriage or death for George, although I believe that he had two sons, Noel and Jack/Jim
and that he died in a cycling accident, possibly in Lisburn.

I have checked the 1901 Ireland Census and Ancestry to no avail.

Can anyone help ?

Devon / William Henry HARRIS - Plymouth
« on: Sunday 05 June 11 22:37 BST (UK)  »
My gt. gt. grandfather William Henry Harris was born on 5th May 1833 in Plymouth.

He served in the coastguards in Ireland where he died in 1888.

I believe that his wife might have been called Mary, although I do not know her surname.

As I live in Northern Ireland I am unable to visit any Plymouth churches to ascertain his birth records so
can anyone help with how I could trace his family ?

Dublin / Harris / Bowen - Clontarf
« on: Thursday 07 October 10 18:20 BST (UK)  »
My gt gt grandfather William Henry Harris married Anne Bowen, daughter of George Bowen, at Clontarf Parish Church [COI] on 13 August 1857.

William was born in Sheffield, England on 28 May 1831 and became a coastguard in Ireland after serving in the Royal Navy. He died on 31 October 1891 in the Parish of St. Catherine.

Is the Parish of St. Catherine near to Clontarf and how might I find any further information on Anne Bowen and her father George ?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Harris - Sheffield
« on: Sunday 26 September 10 20:29 BST (UK)  »
My gt gt grandfather William Henry Harris was born in Sheffield on 28 May 1831, the son of an Edward Harris.

William joined the Royal Navy and served on HMS Cambridge before joining the coastguard service where was posted to Ireland.  He married Anne Bowen in Clontarf, North of Dublin, on 13 August 1857 and died on 31 October 1891, also in Clontarf.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to obtain further information on this Harris family from Sheffield.
