Useful Links / Pastpin.com: 7M historical photographs

I thought it might be of interest to post my website here: www.pastpin.com.
It is a free search engine of historical photographs from around the world.
Optionally, you can help it improve by suggesting the location or the date of a photo (if you like solving puzzles!).

Library and FHS Lookups / Wales & McCulloch Ltd
« on: Monday 26 June 23 23:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

I'm researching this London Victorian retailer established in 1853 with a goal of finding out who the "McCulloch" was. The business traded for about 70 years near St Paul's. You can read my current research journey at https://blog.mcculloch.scot/2021/02/wales-mcculloch.html.

Any information about the founding of the company would be of particular interest. I've also contacted Companies House (no records beyond last 20 years) and National Archives (pending response).

Many thanks and best wishes,
Neil

England / Looking for Maisie Francis
« on: Tuesday 03 November 20 04:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I'm looking for any English record for the following family:

Maisie Francis b. 13/6/1919 England d. 1990 Australia
Father - Harry Francis (Labourer)
Mother - Rose ?

Limited information! Apparently the Francis family travelled to Melbourne, Australia and Maisie was adopted around 1921 to a new family. Harry and Rose are believed to have returned to England. Maisie Francis grew up in Australia, got married and raised a new family. No birth certificate. Passport, marriage and death certificate all say born in England. Any suggestions greatly appreciated as initial searches are not conclusive!

Armed Forces / 4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment
« on: Thursday 31 October 19 13:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I'm trying to find out more about the 4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. My great grandfather was born in 1890 and was adopted by the Fulham Board of Guardians aged 5. He was fostered during his childhood but I lose track of him when he reaches teenage years. I suspect he enlisted young (so this would be about 1906-1910) but have no record yet. On his later short service attestation in 1914 to join KOSB he writes previous service as "4th Bt Gloucester Regt Disbanded".

Can anyone tell me what he might have done during this time with the regiment? Are the records online? I believe it would have been between the Boer War and Great War.

Many thanks!

Scotland Resources / Culloden and Bannockburn
« on: Sunday 17 March 19 03:06 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there is a researched list of the participants of these two battles? I expect Bannockburn would be the bigger challenge being 1314 as supposed to Culloden in 1746. There a few mentioned of casualties on their Wikipedia pages but I wondered if perhaps an academic study had taken place? Any thoughts, comments welcome!
