Graveyards and Gravestones / Meaning of Monument ?
« on: Monday 14 August 23 16:44 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone help with interpreting the meaning, if any, of this memorial?
Glasgow, Eastern Necropolis. First burial (a drowning - about 1881). Subsequent 4 family members until about 1935.
There is a tower (lighthouse?), covered with a sheet, an elaborate shield with family names and dates, and a figure (cherub?) who has unfortunately lost its head. The whole monument is about 6 feet high.
There's nothing else like it in the vicinity, and I would love to uncover its meaning.
