The Common Room / Mother of record
« on: Today at 17:18 »
I have parents who show as having a child in 1924. They married in 1902 and had children in 1903/04 and 05. The 1904 birth was for a daughter. Because of the large gap in birth years my guess is that the 1924 birth was the 1902 daughter but no way to prove it. The mother of record could be the actual mother since she would have been 42 in 1924.
I assume that I have no choice but follow the records. How do others handle the 1924 birth

The Common Room / Dorothy K Shelley and 1939 register
« on: Friday 18 May 18 19:54 BST (UK)  »
I have been tracing Dorothy whose birth was registered 1921 Croydon. In 1939 she is with her family in Surrey and shows a birth date of 15 Jul 1921. What does not show on the record is her married name. It appears she married Edgar J Goddard 1945 Surrey NE. The marriage registration shows two different spellings of her name. Would this be the reason for a married name not entered on the the 1939 register? It appears that she died 1978 Colchester but the birth date does not agree with the 1939 date.

The Common Room / Missing on 1939 register
« on: Wednesday 16 May 18 19:06 BST (UK)  »
I have a number of people who I am assuming are very distant relatives that I can not find in the register. Is there somewhere else that they would show up? I can not justify birth and marriage certs and was hoping to make family connections with the register.

United States of America / Thomas J Holderread Sr
« on: Wednesday 09 May 18 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Thomas J married Evelyn R Cronin 6 Jul 1972 Las Vegas. Both showed residence as California. Unfortunately that is all I know re Thomas. There is a Thomas Jr born 1940 who dies 1997 Texas. No idea why he is a Jr since his father was Fred . I have all info re Evelyn who was born 1935. In 1971 she was in the L A area. Find a Grave has a bio for Thomas Jr but it does not mention any spouse.
Can anyone  help please?

The Common Room / William Henry Corner death
« on: Friday 04 May 18 13:03 BST (UK)  »
I am having difficulty in finding a likely death for William.
William born 26 Jan 1879 Stockwell. He married 1905 Brixton to Ethel Alice Wood. In 1911  family was living in Camberwell. Ethel Alice died 1925 Camberwell. Henry appears to be in Camberwell with daughter Doris in 1939. No deaths appear in the Camberwell area. The most likely deaths age wise appear to be 1943 Reading and 1945 Dorchester but I have no idea why he would be in those locations.
Is there any way to determine if either are my William before I start ordering death certs?

The Common Room / DNA security

Report out of California indicating that a murder/rape cold case was solved by the police using results from genealogy sites. No particular site identified but numerous sites stating that they did not assist police. Food for thought.

London and Middlesex / Harriett Bayliss nee Dawson
« on: Wednesday 18 April 18 17:40 BST (UK)  »
In going over earlier research I have found that there are some points re Harriett that need to be addressed.
Harriett married William Bayliss 9 Jan 1816 Stepney. I have found four baptisms(1820-28) for their children. In 1841 Harriett with children are living in St George the Martyr, Townsend St, Kent Rd, Southwark. Harriett's age is shown as 50(1791) which I assume is the age she thought she was since the children's ages are shown their actual age. Harriett died 11 Aug 1846 in Peckham with her age given as 73 giving a birth year of 1773 as reported by granddaughter. I assume a birth date of abt 1791 would be more accurate than abt 1773 given a child born in 1828.

The Common Room / Nessie short for ??
« on: Friday 23 March 18 18:04 GMT (UK)  »
In trying to track Leonard Frederick Brown(abt 1894) I came across a marriage Sep 1920 W Ham with a spouse named Nessie A E Hines. No one with that name shows up as a birth 1885-1905. Wondered what it could stand for?

The Common Room / Annie Edmonds Spencer after 1911
« on: Friday 23 February 18 12:56 GMT (UK)  »
Is it possible to trace Annie after 1911 death of husband or do I have to wait for 1921?

Annie born 1875 to George Edmonds and Jane Baker. Baptised 18 Apr 1875 Wonersh. She married Alfred William Spencer 10 Jun 1905 in Guildford. In 1911 family were living in Colchester. There were 3 sons two on the 1911 census- Alfred George(1907) and Leonard William(1909). Another son Albert John birth registered Jun 1911 Colchester. Husband Alfred William died 22 Apr 1911 and shows Annie as reporting his death.
There appear to be a number of possible marriages however the only one that I have ruled out is the 1915 Guildford marriage which shows father as Spencer.
Anyone have suggestions?
