Lanarkshire / Chocolate and Biscuit factories in Glasgow in 1919
« on: Sunday 01 January 17 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking on information on either a chocolate factory or a biscuit factory or both that was in Glasgow in 1919.
The girl in question was residing at 21 Possil Road, Glasgow and her occupation was a Chocolate packer.
Her mother in law was a biscuit packer. I was thinking it could have been Tunnocks or Gray Dunn's. So if any one can come up with any factories that existed in 1919.

Perthshire / Welsh family from Crieff
« on: Thursday 26 May 16 20:44 BST (UK)  »
Looking for some help on this family , please.
I want to trace backwards from Sidney Welsh, born 26th Feb 1917, in Cameron's Buildings, East High Street, Crieff. Sidney's parents were William Thomas Welsh, who was a Cruelty Animal Inspector and Sarah Kowen. I believe this maybe Cowan, but that's how it was written on the cert. William and Sarah were married on 25th Nov 1891 in Norwich. I have some more info on the various Welsh connections who appear to have resided in the Glasgow area.

Lanarkshire / James Buchanan number 16 possible sweetshop
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters,
trying to find some information for my American cousin.
James Buchanan ran a sweet or confectionery shop in Glasgow.
A sign above the shop reads James Buchanan with the number 16 on each side of his name. The shop sold Fry's Cocoa and Chocolate. I wondered if any one had a shop directory that maybe identifies the above shop.

Family History Beginners Board / Name of the ship required
« on: Friday 08 January 16 19:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello folks,
I'm just looking to see if anyone can help me with the name of a ship where my ancestor was washed overboard back on 24th December 1928. It happened off the Isle of May and his body was never found. His name was Alexander Grundison Buchanan.
He was aged 39 and worked on the ship as a mate.
On his death certificate, it lists the name of the ship, but it could be one of two possibles.
The name of the ship was either the Linn O' Des or the Linn O' Dee.
Official number was 137,118. Not sure what that refers to?
Ship was registered in Aberdeen. Several of the Buchanan ancestors were Fisherman in and around Prestonpans in East Lothian. So i'm just wondering if this was perhaps a small fishing boat or maybe something a bit more grand.
Yours,

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Buchanan line from Prestonpans
« on: Sunday 20 December 15 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
I was down in Prestonpans cemetery yesterday writing down and photographing any Buchanan headstones, as some of my Buchanan line were born in Prestonpans.
There is also one headstone in Prestongrange church for an Alexander Webster who died 29th June 1898, age 67 years. Beloved husband of Mary Buchanan who died 6th August 1914, age 78 years.

My ancestor was Archibald Buchanan born 1810 Prestonpans. His brothers and sisters were Margaret B1812, Amelia B1815, Mary B1816, James B1818, Andrew B1820, Peter B1822, William B1824, Susan B1826 and Daniel B1830 Tranent. Archibald's parent's were Daniel Buchanan, fisherman, born 1787 Edinburgh and Mary Crawford B1789 Tranent. Daniel and Mary married on 14th Feb 1809, Canongate, Edinburgh.

Archibald above B1810 Prestonpans married Ann Gordon and they had 10 children born in Prestonpans. Agnes Watt B1835, Mary B1838, Daniel B1840, Helen Stevenson B1841, Susan B1843, Archibald B1847, Andrew B1850, Daniel B1854, Thomas B1854 and Robert B1857. My ancestor was Susan who married John Howden on 27th June 1871 in Prestonpans.

Clackmannanshire / Marriage of John Dempster in Tillicoultry 1842
« on: Wednesday 16 December 15 20:45 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters, We have a marriage of John Dempster and Cathrine or Catherine Ramage in Tillicoultry on 9th December 1842. Now because it's before 1855, it's on the old parish registers, so it doesn't list who both their parents are. Which is a pity, because if it was after 1855, you would get them no bother on a certificate. Is there any way, we would be able to find out the parents or give me some advice on how to get them please? Yours, Wilton Endeavour.  :'(

Technical Help / Windows 7 and Genes Reunited wont show my saved tree
« on: Thursday 10 April 14 23:06 BST (UK)  »
I have recently changed over from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I used to be able to click on 'Open my tree' on Genes Reunited and it used to come up as a
sort of different tab pop up. But when I click on my family tree on Windows 7.
Nothing happens. I've tried using block and unblock pop ups on the settings to no avail.
I've also went to Windows Explorer 11 and still the same.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Margaret Epps marrying James Fraser Ralston
« on: Monday 16 December 13 21:37 GMT (UK)  »
The above couple were married in Hendon, Middlesex in September 1945.
I was wondering if someone can look up and find out the parents of Margaret for me please.
As I have been tracing the Ralston family back to about 1800 in Scotland, but I'm struggling
to get anything on the Epps side.
