Mayo / Grittiths Map?
« on: Friday 18 November 16 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have spent some time searching the Griffith's Evaluation for a possible family ancestor.
Found one who seems to be ticking all the right boxes. ;D
It states on the page "No. in ref to position on map"

Would anyone know if the map exists and if it is available to view?

Many Thanks,
Cancan :)

Glamorganshire / Bravin? Cardiff, Glamorgan
« on: Saturday 16 July 16 22:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm hoping to get some local knowledge about Cardiff.

I have an ancestor in my tree Mary Ann Pearce/Pearse born 1858.  I only have her on the census 1861+ since her marriage.  On the censuses she states her place of birth as Bravin? Cardiff Glamorgan.
On her marriage certificate she states her father is William PEARCE, Miner.

I have received the birth certificate for Mary Ann PEARCE born June qtr 1858 Cardiff, father William mother Eliza Watkins.  1861 census shows Mary Ann, 1871 Census she is missing, checking the deaths index she died aged 10 1868.
So I can rule this family out.

Checking FreeBMD there is no other Mary Ann Pearce born in Cardiff.

There is however Mary Pearce born 1857 Merthyr Tydfil and Mary Ann Pearce born Neath 1858, obviously I'm looking at the Neath 1858 birth as a next possible.  There is also a Mary Ann Pierce born 1857 in Neath too ::)

Not knowing Cardiff or Glamorgan, is Neath any nearer to Cardiff than Merthyr Tydfil?
Is there somewhere with the name of Bravin?  Have looked on google maps but nothing is showing.

Any help greatly appreciated!! :)

Hi,

Busy transcribing some gravestones at the moment and have come across a welsh transcription.
I have had a look at the above link for transcribing memorial stones, but, there are a few words missing from my transcription which are not shown on the site.

If some kind person could take a look and let me knew which words I'm missing I'd be grateful :)

Technical Help / Excel help needed
« on: Tuesday 24 December 13 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have been indexing using Excel 2007 edition.

I have seven columns across top A,B,C,D,E,F,G.  When I finish with the present work I highlight all work and organise it alphabetically.

Now, for some reason 'Dopey here' has failed to highlight column G and have organised it all alphabetically as usual the other night.
I have saved work as such.

Tonight I have just gone to do more indexing and have noticed that Column G isn't matching the information in the other columns!

Does anybody know if I can reset the work to the date I was working on the other night before I saved the index?  Or is there some other way to do this?

I'm really hoping there is a way, as with over 16,000 names I'm not wanting to start again, but have a feeling this is what is going to have to happen!

Fingers crossed XX!!!!

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Looking for Maiden Name
« on: Wednesday 11 December 13 23:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Helping a friend with her family tree and we are having trouble trying to find the maiden names of a couple of ancestors.

We have found the baptisms of some of their children and it doesn't mention it there.
We have been unable to find a marriage for the couples too.

We have:

Samuel Moore born Ashton under Lyne (stated on 1851 Census) born abt 1780.
Have baptism as 16 May 1780 St Michael's Church  Ashton under Lyne.
His parents are John Moor and Ann ???????  we have No marriage for this couple
(we have found a total of 6 children to these parents, but no occupation of the father is stated)
I have Samuel & Mary on the 1841 & 1851 census. Censuses show occupation as farmer.
Samuel died 1860 and is buried in St Peter's Graveyard in Blackley. Mary died 1857 and is buried with her husband.
They lived in Moston, Manchester.

Samuel Moor (bapt 1780) marries Mary ??????  we have No marriage for this couple
Samuel and Mary have six children (known at present) Fathers Occupation for all is farmer.
I have them on the censuses living in Moston, Manchester.

Any help greatly appreciated!
