Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / 1841 + 1861 Census Lookup - SELBY
« on: Thursday 13 July 06 11:20 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find the Family of John and Eliza SELBY, apparently first found in St. Peter's Parish (1841) with six children. Then in 1861 in St. Nicholas Parish with son John who is listed as a Soldier on furlough from the 60th Rifles.  This info was passed to me by a friend in Minnesota, she got it via an unknown third party, but I have been unable to find or corroborate it.  We are particularly interested in an elusive soldier called John Selby who left England for Canada with his Regiment, the 4th Bat. 60th Rifles, aboard the 'Great Eastern' later in 1861,  and this John may possibly be our missing link.  ???  Jacsel.

I am not sure I am on the right board here, but according to 2005 maps, Womersley is North Yorks!

I am trying to find more details on Benjamin Illingworth who married Mary Unwin on 28th July 1825, Womersley, Yorkshire.

Can anyone please tell me where the Womersley Parish Records are held?

If anyone is able to do a look-up for me, I would appreciate it, I need to know Benjamins date of birth, and especially his parents names, etc.,

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1861-1871 Look-up Bedale/Ripon Please
« on: Saturday 09 April 05 18:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I would like a look-up for Thomas Pybus, Saddler, (age 41/51)wife Jane,  (age 39 or 49).
Children:  Edwin Johnson Pybus, (age 14 or 24),
Thomas Hutchinson Pybus, (age 13 or 23),
Frances Jane Pybus, (age 10 or 20),
Annie Maria , (Abt. 8 or 18).
Ages are according to which census you are looking in of course!
The family were living in Bedale during the 1851 census, Annie Maria not yet born.  They moved to Ripon at some point.
If someone could find them for me, I would like to know where they were living, and if there were any more children after Annie Maria.
Thank you.

The Lighter Side / Researchers Lament
« on: Sunday 27 March 05 16:47 BST (UK)  »
I thought I was corresponding with a new 'fourth' cousin who had two email addresses, then find out it is two different people with the same name, both researching the same person as me!!  :D

Duplication!

Family Research can be so frustrating
when our ancestors start duplicating!
Of our Phineas there is more than one,
one date is right, but which one is wrong?
They’re both married to a lady called Betty,
how inconsiderate..!  And rather petty.
And now they have got us so confused
over the children that they produced;
all were born within a span of five years,
in the same place, it could drive you to tears.
And now, just to make matters worse
(apart from putting the problem in verse!)
I have two contacts, one is related
and the other could be, we’ve speculated!
They have the same name, both first and last,
a problem for future genealogists I forecast!
And now this researchers memory is flagging,
I think my brain is in need of defragging!

« on: Thursday 24 March 05 11:13 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the Parish Records for Heptonstall and/or Todmorden, from the 1760's through the early1800's?  I have a problem family of Illingworth's that I need to connect up, due to conflicting birth dates for the parents etc.,

The Lighter Side / Skeleton in the Closet
« on: Tuesday 07 December 04 21:05 GMT (UK)  »
Skeleton in the Closet

A skeleton in the closet
is what I would love to find,
not just some boring character
who lounged around, then died.

I’d like to find a Knight
who did a dirty deed, or two!
Or a nasty cutthroat pirate
who loved his cockatoo!

I wouldn’t mind a Highwayman
well known for his derring-do.
A suave, sophisticated ladies man
who made them sob as he bid adieu.

But frustration is what I get
as the records I try to search,
‘No match’ keeps popping up
and to those words I am averse.

Ag-labs are difficult to find
as they skip from place to place,
and of that Army Deserter
I simply cannot find a trace.

I’ll just have to keep on digging
through the family history chests,
till I find those ancestral bones, and,
maybe, some hidden family crests!

Has anyone found an interesting 'skeleton' in their tree??

Cumberland Lookup Requests / 1851/1861 Lookup Please - Wigton & Carlisle SELBY
« on: Thursday 25 November 04 21:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for William Selby, christened 26 June 1831, Saint Mary, Carlisle.  Parents John Selby and Dinah.

Also looking for John Bell Selby, Christened 01 June 1832 Wigton.  Parents Matthews Selby and Dinah.

I am wondering if this is actually the same family.

I am particularly interested in the trade of the two sons, as I am looking for a John/William Selby who enlisted in a Scottish regiment and later deserted in Canada.

Hi,

I am trying to find the family of Thomas Pybus and his wife Jane.  Thomas was born in Ripon c1819 and Jane (nee Mallaby) c1822.  They married April 27th 1844 in Bedale.  I know they had two daughters, Frances, born around 1848-50? and Annie Maria (my great x 2 grandmother) born in 1851.

I want to find out where they were living and if there were any other children.  In 1881, Thomas was living at 8 Market Place, Ripon, and was listed as a Sadler.

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Jacsel :)
