World War Two / 82 squadron RAF in India
« on: Saturday 13 November 10 22:32 GMT (UK)  »
My father was Sgt Kenneth Folland, he served in 82 Squadron RAF and when posted to India he and some of his friends formed a swing band.  Whilst sorting through his garage we discovered a book which is an account of all the gigs they played including appearing on All India Radio.

This is a fascinating story of their attempt to keep up morale, Dad was the drummer and keeper of the accounts.

If you have any memories of Dad and his band I would love to hear from you.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Looking for Roome's in Arthuret!
« on: Saturday 09 October 10 23:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am looking for the family of Frances Roome who married John Ferguson in 1809 in Arthuret.  John and Frances settled in Arthuret and raised five children that I can find at the moment.  The first child was Mary Ferguson/Roome and she was possibly born before they were married.
I am drawing a blank on Frances's baptism   ::) despite the fact that there are numerous Roomes in Arthuret.
Can anyone help please?

Occupation Interests / apparitor
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 15:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi has anyone ever come across an occupation 'apparitor', I have come across a male who has a general occupation as a clothes dealer and a weaver at various times. On one census however, he is referred to as an apparitor any ideas?!

There is a dictionary definition of an 'official' either ecclesiastical or civil attached to a court, but this seems unlikely in this context.

Cheshire / kenworthy/barber/buckley/Gorton
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 20:11 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for John Kenworthy who married Lydia Barber in Manchester in 1846.  They both gave Gorton as their address although John was born Mottram, Lydia in Tinwistle.  John gives his father as John Kenworthy 'Carder', John junior as a 'weaver'.  I have traced both the Barber's and this Kenworthy family forward, they settled in Ashton under Lyne.

I would like to positively identify John junior and his father, as there are other suspects who have almost been ruled out but at the moment there is no one to take their place!

Does anyone have more information about George Gray b c1821 and Ann (nee Gray) married in Semley in 1849.  They had three children William (1851), Edwin (1852), Hannah (1860).  I am researching the direct descendants of son Edwin who married Louisa Ingram in 1879.  Any help would be appreciated.
