Worcestershire / William Hampton, Dudley b. 1822
« on: Thursday 06 July 17 05:28 BST (UK)  »

I am hoping someone with better access to records (I'm in Australia) can help me find a marriage (and anything else) for the parents of William Hampton (b. Dudley, 1822, d. 1892 Upton on Severn).  I know quite a lot about William and his descendants, but am struggling to get any further back than the names of his parents (and some siblings).

Here is what I do know about them:

  * William's marriage certificate (to Eliza Price) in 1838 states his father is John Hampton, Nailer.  As
it doesn't say John is deceased, I assume he is still alive at that time.

  * On the 1841 census, William is in Tower St, Dudley.  His mother, Honor, is shown as the Head, so I
assume that his father John has died between 1838 and the time of the census.

  * Honor(a) Hampton appears once more in the 1851 census, giving her birthplace as Rowley,
Staffordshire around 1781.  She dies in Jan 1854 - I have seen a copy of her death registration.

If anyone can help locate John Hampton & Honor's marriage and Honor's maiden name, it would be much appreciated.

Others doing the same research have her as Honour Bridge, marrying John Hampton, 1804 in Kingswinford.  I find it hard to wrap my head around this, as neither of them were from there (as far as I know), and I can't find any births to John & Honour before 1810 (which is long gap).

Any and all help is appreciated.

Europe / German Military Service WW2 - Kunkel
« on: Thursday 07 May 15 04:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi.  I was hoping someone could give me some more info on the military service on the attached picture.  Especially if anyone can confirm if "p.w" means "prisoner of war" or "post war" and what the initials after it may stand for?

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi,

I would really appreciate if someone is able to look up the following marriage at Peterborough, St John...

7 June 1760 - William Buck & Catherine Clifton.

I'm hoping there may be some indication on where Catherine is from.

thanks
Lisa :)

Nottinghamshire / Buck(e) family of Blyth 1600's
« on: Friday 30 March 12 05:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

If anyone has access to parish registers for Blyth for the 17th century, can you please look up any baptisms, marriages and deaths?

I am trying to see if there is a relationship between my ancestor Edward Buck(e) who married Dorothy Porter in 1670 and Thomas Buck(e) who married Ann Hawke in 1666.

Info on any Buck(e)'s of Blyth from the registers during this period would be much appreciated.

thanks
Lisa :)

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Nottingham Archives WILL Lookup - Porter
« on: Thursday 29 March 12 05:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

If anyone is visiting the Nottingham Archives, could you please look up the following will?

Thomas Porter - died 1678/79.

He was "of Blyth" if that is any help.  I would like to find out who is named in the will and any places mentioned.

thanks
Lisa :)

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Chester Marriage Bond - 1816, DRUMMOND & DAVIES
« on: Monday 26 March 12 00:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was hoping someone would be able to look at a marriage bond?  I have found it on the indexes, but was wondering if the actual bond contained any further information.

The licence was for John Drummond and Elizabeth Davies, who were married on 29 May 1816 in Liverpool.

If anyone can assist, I would be most grateful.

thanks
Lisa :)

Australia / Henry WALLACE, Deserter 40th Regiment, MELBOURNE 1857
« on: Monday 16 January 12 02:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am not very familiar with Victorian records, and was hoping someone could help.

I am researching a Henry Wallace, born Oughterard, Ireland in abt. 1835.  He enlisted in the 40th Regiment in Galway in Nov 1854 and deserted 26 Dec 1857 from Melbourne.  We assume he deserted (as did many others) to try to find his fortunes on the goldfields - but this is pure speculation at present.

I can find no further mention of him in the muster rolls of the 40th, so I assume he never went back to his regiment.

Are there any records I can consult from Sydney or would I have to get someone to look things up for me in Victoria?

I am trying to ascertain what became of Henry, and any further leads would be wonderful.

Thanks :-)

Cornwall / FRANCIS, missing from 1851 Census
« on: Wednesday 21 December 11 02:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am stumped and was hoping someone out there may be able to help.  My ancestors, Richard Francis (b. 1786, St Austell, d. 1860 St Austell) and wife Mary Francis (b 1784 St Austell, d. 1861 St. Austell) are missing from the 1851 census.

Richard Francis is a tallow chandler.

I have them both in the 1841 census in St Austell living in Kiln Lane.  I then have Mary as a widow in the 1861 census living in Kiln Lane & Mary's burial record of 1861 also shows that her residence was Kiln Lane.  I can place them in Kiln Lane as far back as 1825 from one of their children's baptism records.

However, try as I might, I cannot find them in the 1851 census.  :(  I have even looked many times at the census pieces that include Kiln Lane, St Austell to see if they are mistranscribed - but no luck.

There are another Richard  (also a tallow chandler) and Mary Francis with approximately the same birth years in both the 1841 and 1851 census located at Madron, but this can't be them as I have them in Kiln Lane, St Austell in 1841.  And Madron isn't exactly a stone's throw away from St Austell.

If anyone has any ideas, or can find what I cannot, I would be most grateful.

thanks  :)
