London and Middlesex / Searching for first marriage
« on: Friday 29 June 18 05:11 BST (UK)  »
On 5th April 1846, at St Mary Haggerston, Hackney. Henry Butt married a widow named Sarah Hewiit. Her father was William Harris so that is her maiden name I assume  :)

I'm having trouble tracking her first marriage and her in the 1841 census. Henry and Sarah lived in Shoreditch in 1851 and 1861, they had three children,  Henry, John and Charles.

The records are probably really obvious but I'm just not finding them for some reason. From the census it says that she was born abt 1816 so I'm guessing around 1840?? For a first short lived marriage.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry DNA questions
« on: Sunday 24 June 18 02:04 BST (UK)  »
I've just had my DNA tested through ancestry I'm overall happy with how they've done things but I have a few questions that dont seem to be explained anywhere.

Do the match ups only include matches with other people who have Great British heritage. In my drop down menu to pick which areas I want to see matches from, it only let's me pick from the British areas. I do have about 60% heritage from western and eastern Europe. So, I'm not understanding how theres no matches from these areas

2. There are people who I'm matched with who are meant to be an extremely  high match with as 3rd cousins but it seems that we have absolutely no connection. So, I'm not sure what to think.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? ???

Armed Forces / Soldier 1872
« on: Saturday 16 June 18 05:12 BST (UK)  »
This is going quite a long way back in time, but I'm trying to trace someone who was a soldier in 1872. Is it possible to trace someone when the only info you have about them is their name, profession and a few clues about location??

I'm searching for Charles Butt who was a soldier on his daughters 1872 birth certificate but that's the only info that I have about him. His daughter was born in Suffolk but in the 1871 census her mother was living in Essex so he could have been living either place.

Is there any census database which allows you to search by profession??

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Snape birth record
« on: Thursday 14 June 18 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
This is a long shot, but thought I'd ask anyway.
I'm looking for a birth record for Ann Markum, born around 1793-96 in Snape, Suffolk. She married George Teager 25 May 1819 in Hatcheson and spent most of her life in Parham.

There is a christening for an Ann Markham in 1800 in Burgate but this is is a different Ann.

Any help appreciated  :)

Essex / Walter Teager
« on: Wednesday 16 May 18 10:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm looking for any info on Walter Teager ... all I have been able to find out is that he married Barabara Sophia Finch in July-August-Sept 1852 in Romford Essex. By the 1861 census it looks like Walter has passed away but I can't find a death record for him.

His family had moved to Suffolk, and he had 3 children. Thomas 10 (b. Tendering), Emma 7 (b. Hornchurch) and Walter 4 (b. Suffolk).

I think Walter must have passed away around 1857 - 1861. I also can't find him in 1851.

Any help appreciated:)

London and Middlesex / Gertrude Butt/Francis
« on: Wednesday 16 May 18 02:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi  :)

I've been searching for a marriage record for a Gertrude Emily Butt born 1872 in Marlesford, Suffolk.

I have found her in the London Workhouse in 1892 I believe that Gertrude was an orphan raised by her grandmother for some of her childhood. She married Carl Franz/Francis around 1894 according to 1911 census. They lived in Hackney in 1901 and 1911 and had 5 children
Marie Gertrude 1894
Maud Alice 1896
May Victoria 1899
Charles 1907
Gertrude 1909

Carl Francis was a hairdresser from Bohemia. He had a few name changes going between Franz and Francis but according to family stories he was originally a Bosek.

I have been searching for their marriage record for a while and I am beginning to think that they weren't married. Its possible that they might have had a catholic marriage ceremony.

Any help finding their marriage or any other information about them is much appreciated as it has been a brick wall for me for a little while.

Thanks

Monmouthshire / Winfred Thorne, b 1905, Newbridge
« on: Tuesday 27 May 14 09:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

This is my one last try to see if I can find anything out about my great-grandfather's half brother before I look for a professional to try and help me.

This is the information that I have about the mysterious half brother:

First of all - I don't know if Winfred is his actual name because it doesn't look like that in the 1911 census which is the only record I have of him.
The info I have:
1911 Census - his name is hard to decipher, but ancestry has transcribed it as Winfred.
Winfred Thorne age 6, born abt 1905 in Newbridge, Monmouthshire Wales. Street Address: 33 Gordon Road, Blackwood, Monmouthshire Bedwelty.
Parents:
Edwin Thorne age 56
Alice Thorne age 49
Other's in household
Alfred Davies 16
Henry Wild 26
William Kingsley 39

My great, great grandmother Alice Thorne (nee Rumbol) was married three times, a widow twice. Her oldest son from first marriage (my great grandfather) was William Charles Shaw born Nov 5. 1881 in Surrey. Alice then went on to marry James Yates, and had one child - Alice Yates (who went to on to marry Harry Wild from this census), her last marriage was to Edwin Thorne (also a widower with other children) and their only surviving child seems to be Winfred but I can't find anymore information about him other than this census where I can't even read his name properly.

Here is some further info about his parents:
Father:Edwin Thorne
born 1855 in Creech Somerset, occupation: Hewer
Mother: Alice Louisa Rumbol (Shaw, Yates, Thorne)
Born 1864, Paddington, London
other half siblings:
Alice Emma Yates
Born 1890Southwark, Middlesex, married Harry Wilde, died 1963 but can't find any children for her and Harry,
William Charles Shaw
Born 1881, Lambeth Surrey. Moved to New Zealand, married Alice Maud Gregory in Bedwelty 1911.

Any help finding anything out about the Mysterious Winfred would be really great, I would just like to find a birth and anything else that happened to him - if he married or had any children. :)

« on: Tuesday 27 May 14 06:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I need some help with certain areas of my family tree, and I would like to get some professional help. Maybe someone who specialises in the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire areas.

I live in New Zealand so they would need to be able to accept paypal. I hope that I posted this in the right place. :)
