Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Ripon Parish Registers - EDSON
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 18:41 BST (UK)  »
I would like to request a look-up in the Ripon Parish Registers for the marriage of my ancestors Robert Edson and Ada (maiden name unknown), working backwards from 1822, also for their baptisms around 1792-1800 and those of any siblings as well as any children before 1823 (they were in York by that time), and marriages and baptisms etc of their parents if applicable and if time permits. I am also interested in finding a link between Robert Edson and two other Edsons listed on the 1851 census as born in Ripon who shared his occupation (Saddle Tree Maker), James Edson born c. 1802 (possibly a brother or cousin?) and Samuel Edson born c. 1775 (married to Judy, possibly parents of either Robert or James or both). Thank you very much in advance to anyone who is able to help with this.  :)

Gloucestershire / Scott - Stroud area, early 20th century- HELP!
« on: Thursday 16 February 06 06:18 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for the family of my husband's elusive great grandfather George Henry Scott, born around 1895. He is said to have come from Stroud, Gloucestershire. On his marriage certificate in 1920 (by which time he had moved to Maidenhead, Berkshire having served in France in WWI - we don't know in which regiment) his father was given as William Scott (deceased), Collier. He also had a brother called William E. Scott and sister-in-law Dorothy (married before 1935). I have found a William Edward Scott born 1908 Dursley RD and died Gloucester RD 1989, but have not been able to find a birth for a George (Henry) Scott anywhere near Stroud in the right era or to find a George (Henry) Scott of the right age with a father William living in Gloucestershire on the 1901 census,  ??? :-\ so I am working on the theory that the family might have moved to the area from another part of the country (the mining aspect also makes me wonder that) sometime around 1901-1908.  ??? Although I have noticed that there were other George Henry Scotts in Stroud RD at earlier dates.  ::) I would really appreciate any help! Thank you. :)

PS I am indebted to Little Nell on the Berkshire boards for even getting this far, as she was able to find and send me a newspaper report about George Henry Scott's untimely and tragic death :( in an accident at work - thank you again Nell if you see this! :)

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Maidenhead local newspaper look-up - at library?
« on: Monday 13 February 06 04:28 GMT (UK)  »
I'm not sure if anyone would be able to help at all, but I am interested in finding an article or coroner's report from a local newspaper for 1935 (I believe that it might have been the Maidenhead Advertiser and that it is available to search at Maidenhead Library). We have my husband's great grandfather's death certificate giving details of the accident, but I am hoping that the newspapers might have some additional information about his origins (we have still not been able to establish where he was born - and it's driving me mad!  :o ) and maybe even a photograph of him. His name was George Henry Scott and he died on 14th January 1935 aged 39 (he was probably born in early 1895 going by this and his marriage certificate) in the GWR Good Yard at Maidenhead Station. He was a lorry driver and was crushed between the buffers of two railway wagons.  :( The inquest was held on 16th January and the death certificate was issued on the 17th, so I am hoping that there would have been reports in the paper around these dates. His widow's name was Florence Rebecca (nee Richens) and he left three sons, George, Albert and Arthur (ages at the time around 14, 10 and 8 ). On his marriage certificate, his father's name was given as William Scott (deceased), Collier. Having searched the 1901 census, I believe that he was likely to have been born in the North East, but there are a few likely families.  ??? We do not live locally, so visiting Maidenhead myself is not an option at the moment. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this.  :)

Durham Lookup Requests / 1841 Look-up Stockton - WEBSTER
« on: Sunday 13 November 05 19:44 GMT (UK)  »
I have managed to find my ancestor Richard Webster on the 1851 census, but would be very grateful if someone could do a look-up for me of the 1851 census. In 1851 he was in Commercial Street, Stockton-on-Tees. He was widowed and an agricultural labourer and his age was given as 77 in 1851 and birthplace as Silton, Yorkshire. He had his unmarried daughter Hannah with him, born in Kirkleavington, Yorkshire and age given as 26 in 1851. Richard's wife, if she was still alive in 1841, was called Isabella. Thank you.  :)

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / 1841 Luton Look-up please OAKLEY / KILB(E)Y
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 01:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would also like to request a look-up for 1841 for my Oakley family:

I found the mother LYDIA OAKLEY many years ago (age rounded down to 50 and widowed) living with her eldest son WILLIAM OAKLEY, also widowed at the time. I believe that his age is given as 30 (bapt. 1809). I would be grateful for any more details, as I mislaid my original notes in a house move and can't remember any other details. I believe that Lydia was born out of county (Herts) and William was born in Luton. Lydia and William were possibly living in East Hyde or New Mill End, or at least somewhere on that side of Luton (to the south), as that was where he was living in the years that followed during his second marriage.

When I looked at the census at the FRC I was not able to find any other members of the family, but I am hoping that if the census is indexed now that some of the other sons might be found. As far as I know they were all ag. labs. Their details are as follow:

JAMES OAKLEY bp. 1811 (Luton) married to MARY ANN b. 1819 (Luton) with children JOHN b. 1836-7, SAMUEL b. 1837-8 and CHARLOTTE b. 1839. Possibly living in / near East Hyde.

SAMUEL OAKLEY bp. 1813 (Luton).

THOMAS OAKLEY bp. 1815 (Luton).

HENRY OAKLEY bp. 1817 (Luton).

ISAAC OAKLEY (my ggg grandfather) bp. 1821 (Luton). Possibly living in Stopsley, as his children were later born there.

GEORGE OAKLEY bp. 1824 (Luton).

FRANCIS OAKLEY bp. 1826 (Luton).

I would also interested to find out if my ggg grandmother ELIZABETH KILB(E)Y bp. 1821 Offley, Herts. was in Luton (Stopsley area) in 1841.
All of her family were born in Hertfordshire.

Parents were JOSEPH b. abt. 1789 and SARAH KILB(E)Y bp. 1791.

Siblings:
MARY (bp. 1817, spinster)
SAMUEL (bp. 1818), wife FANNY bp. 1818, children RIZPAH bp. 1839 & CORNELIUS bp. 1841
HARRIET (bp. 1825)
JAMES (bp. 1826)
CHARLOTTE (bp. 1829)
WILLIAM (bp. 1832)
ISAAC (bp. 1834).

Many thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help.  ;D :D :)

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / 1851 Luton Look-up please OAKLEY
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 00:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would be very grateful  :) :D if someone could do a look-up for me for the Luton area in 1851 for Lydia Oakley aged around 63-64 and a widow. I believe that she was born in Kimpton, Hertfordshire. She might have been living in New Mill End, Wadbridge (or Watbridge?) or East Hyde, as this is where some of her sons were living around that time. I have found a Luton death registration reference for a Lydia Oakley in 1852, so believe that she was still alive at the time of the census. She had eight sons, all born in the parish of Luton; William, James, Samuel, Thomas, Henry, Isaac (my ggg grandfather who lived in Stopsley), George and Francis. As far as I know, only four were still alive in 1851 (William, James, Isaac & George). She was my 4 x great grandmother. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. :)

Berkshire Completed Look ups / 1841 & 1851 Census Look-ups please Fisher
« on: Tuesday 17 May 05 16:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to piece together the family of one of my husband's ancestors, Daniel Fisher of Hillgreen, Leckhampstead, Chieveley. I believe that he would have been in Leckhampstead, probably at Hillgreen, in 1841 with his first wife (Mary?) and children, including his eldest daughter Emma, born 1837 at Hillgreen and possibly Martha born 1840.

In 1851 I know that widower Daniel was in Reading with daughter Emma in St Mary's Butts, however have no more details as this was just from an index, so would be very interested if somebody could give me any additional information from the origial return. I would also be interested to know if any of his other children were left behind in Leckhampstead with relatives, including William born about 1844-46  as well as Martha b. 1840, Priscilla b. 1842, Daniel and Mary.

Thank you in advance for your help. I am happy to do look-ups in return on the 1861 - 1901 census.
