Family History Beginners Board / Taking my research further - Advice
« on: Thursday 14 April 11 18:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have been tracing my tree for some time now and have quite an extensive tree.  How do you take it back further than 1841 census?

I would really like to try and find more info on my g x4 grandfather - Jonathan Lawrence b 1799 Walworth Surry, have lots of info on him but no parents, brothers and sisters are not 100%

Can anyone help or point me in the direction of where i would find his birth records etc

I am subscribed to the usual tools that we use, but not found much there

Many thanks  :)

Occupation Interests / Photographic Agent 1891
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 15:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

Back again with another query.

Found Great Aunt's(x 3) husband -Richard Green b 1858c, Bethanal Green Middlesex  He is listed as photographic agent on 1891 census, family living in Edmonton.

Am I right in thinking that he would be the one who would perhaps take orders for the photographer or is that a posh name for camera man!

How could I find out who he worked for etc

Not sure what happens but he changed jobs as in 1901 he is now an optician.

Anyways any pointers to find him when he worked in first job would be great

Thanks in advance

Family History Beginners Board / Can anyone help?
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 18:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me.

Looking for a Nellie Ellen Hall who married Albert Ernest Lawrence 1938 Poplar

I have traced the Lawrence side quite a way back.  I know both parties are dead.  My Aunt said Albert and Nellie divorced she didn't know when and that Nellie died having her teeth out at Wiltshire Hospital around 1977.

I have a membership for the site that must not be named, but nothing, only the marriage which I have a cert for.  >:(

Nellie must be somewhere, no birth, no family???

Any help as to where to look or maybe one of you super people could help, I would be grateful

Thanks
Sarah

Hi

I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I just wanted to say that this is a very useful site and I have found the postings so interesting.

I have only been a member for a week or so and not only have I had quick replies to my queries but have become throughly addicted to others stories.

I particularly like Scavenger Hunt, useful for when researching your own tree.

Anyways Thank you

I have lots of census left overs which I shall upload soon which I hope will contribute.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / No 7 Shoeshop Bethnal Green, Middlesex
« on: Thursday 08 October 09 16:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have a copy of the 1861 census for George Lawrence b 1829 Bishopsgate, and his address is 7 Shoeshop Bethnal Green.

It doesn't list the road of the shoe shop, (Perhaps Bethnal Green Road?) I know George was a shoe/boot manufacturer, so am thinking the shoe shop was his.

How can I find this out?   I have tried searching various directories but to no avail.  George did end up employing 15 men and 6 women but I think this was a family type thing, with members of his family doing the work.  As all his brothers and sons are listed as Cordwainers, boot clickers etc.

Any help would be appreciated
