World War Two / 227 Squadron at RAF Balderton
« on: Sunday 28 July 19 15:22 BST (UK)  »
RAF Balderton, 227 Squadron 9J ‘B’ Baker. Lancaster PD348 B P/O George Edge and crew.

Over the past three years the sons and daughters of this crew have been in contact sharing stories, photos, etc.

Out of the crew of seven we are in contact with, we are still short of finding the following. The family of George Edge (pilot) last contact with him was in 1995, he lived in Staines passed away in 1997, and A J Ling (Flight Engineer, John known as Twitch). We would also like to find the families of J G Warburton, Harry R Piper, A E Colston (Flight Engineers) and A W Cuthbertson (Bomb Aimer) who also flew with the Edge crew .

On February 8th 1945 on a mission to Politz their Lancaster developed engine faults over Norfolk. The crew managed to land safely in a field by Pedders Way, Great Bircham, Norfolk complete with 4000lb "Cookie" on board. Our intention on Feb 8th 2020 the 75th Anniversary is to mark the occasion of their safe return.
If anyone has any information to help us find these families, it would be most appreciated.

Tyrone / Bull's Acre. Burial Ground
« on: Friday 04 July 14 08:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Has anyone visited Bully's Acre on the Tullybroom Road, which is I have seen recorded as the Paupers graveyard, The cemetery is adjacent to the Clogher Workhouse. What photos I have seen on the net, seems as though there are no headstones or markers, there again who would have paid for a stone.

Any thoughts, or if anyone knows of records on-line apart from Proni would be appreciated.

Regards

Richard

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Who is this lady?
« on: Tuesday 18 March 14 15:46 GMT (UK)  »
I rescued the photo of this lady on a trip to the local council tip. Just could not leave it there, this is someone’s relative, not that the person who the picture away thought much of it.

Details I have are, photo taken October 1914, age 62 years. The photographic studio was Vectis Photographic Co. Cowes, Isle of Wight.  Size with card 9” x 6”.

If anyone recognises the lady they are more than welcome to the photo

Cork / Old Court. Skibbereen
« on: Tuesday 04 December 12 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
Old Court, Skibbereen.  August 1939. Jerome Ltd

I have had this photo for a number of years. Paid 10p for it at a local car boot, I just like the photo, it would have probably ended up in the skip if not.   While on holiday in Ireland  I did try to find the house on a visit to the area, with out too much success.

Well the question is, does any recognise the face or the name?  More than happy to forward a high quality scan of the image to those interested parties.

The message on the back of the photo as follows,

'To Dear Dais
Wishing her Many Happy Returns of Sept 27th 1939.  With Love from Alf & Edith'.

Anyone with local knowledge on this query?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / What is the chain? Freemason? Orange Order?
« on: Thursday 22 March 12 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

Any help with this photo would certainly be appreciated. Can anyone identify the chain that this fellow is wearing and what association he may have beloged to, and if I am really lucky a name as well.  This photo has been in the family collection for some time and recently has surfaced courtesy of a cousin.  I believe he is either a Scott, Moore, Bailey or McCaughan.

Any thoughts most welcome

World War One / Can anyone identify these Uniforms?
« on: Friday 09 March 12 10:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help identify these two photos that I have recently received. I believe the one on the right is my Great Uncle, Robert Bailey.  The one on the left not a clue.   Hopefully if I knew what the uniforms were it would help to find out who they really are .

The photos came from Northern Ireland, if that helps.

Regards

Richard
