Kent Lookup Requests / Walmer - obituary, burial, Arthur C Green
« on: Monday 19 November 12 14:52 GMT (UK)  »
Please would someone help me find an obituary about Arthur Clark Green who died at 27 Cornwall Rd. Walmer, Kent on  31 May 1920?

Failing that a grave stone in the Walmer area perhaps?

If one exists I hope it would mention family members or give insight as to why he died in Walmer when he lived in Romania.

He married my husband’s aunt Jeannie Riddell in 1914, Arthur was a Railway Controller, his father John Green had been a diplomat.
Arthur appeared considerably older than his wife Jeannie in a photo taken in Romania.
Jeannie died in Romania in 1938, she still had small funds in UK, the probate of their UK funds provided the dates and places of both their deaths.

Thank you,

Midlothian / Unwanted baby in 1906
« on: Friday 26 August 11 11:11 BST (UK)  »
What was the most likely place, or practice, to leave a baby a mother could not keep in Edinburgh in 1906?

Recently I heard from someone connected to a descendant of a child born in 1906 to my grand mother's cousin. Said cousin did not bring up the child herself. Names with-held to protect etc.

Cousin was married but declaired on the birth certificate that the child was not her husbands.
Cousin lived in the Highlands but went to Edinburgh for the birth in 1906, returning to the Highlands fairly soon after the birth.
The child appears to have been brought up in Edinburgh, but by whom? Individual or organisation?

Any help in understanding how to discover where this child might have grown up would be welcome.

Armed Forces / Is unnamed lad in Military service?
« on: Tuesday 13 July 10 22:06 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to work out who the young man could be and with much appreciated help form others, Shane & Dara, have a possible date for this photo as taken between 1904 to 1915, the date when L Dome worked at the address on the print, 10 Sarsfield Quay, Dublin. Date from census, directory and death date.

My question to this list is could he be a cadet of some force? Did Irish Regiments have kilted cadets?
Do the belt buckle or cap badge suggest anything useful or is it just a dress outfit?

Photo, taken in Dublin, was in the posession of my Macrae gr gran in Scotland.
Question also posted in the Dublin list.

Dublin / Dublin Photographer L Dome (with accent on e)
« on: Monday 12 July 10 15:09 BST (UK)  »
Please could someone tell me if there is an on-line access to a trade directory for Dublin about 1880 to 1910. I have a photo of a young man'/boy in formal kilt etc. Taken by L Dome, (accute accentn on the e) address 10 Sarsfield Quay, Dublin. I found the street on an old map.

I hope a date of operation of this photographer might help identify the sitter.

I have no name for the boy, the photo belonged my great gran,Catherine MacRae, she died 1912 in Highland Scotland. There are reputed Irish connections as yet unproven. Her sister married a Neil Black, a possible father to a nephew?

Any ideas welcome.
