The Common Room / Age of a witness?
« on: Sunday 10 February 19 12:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Would any one know if there was a minimum age requirement for a marriage witness in 1827 England?

After years of searching I've found a possible marriage for my people but it would mean the groom's 19 year old brother was a witness.

Thanks

The Common Room / Help Needed Again Please
« on: Monday 13 August 18 00:39 BST (UK)  »
A few years age the people on this site helped me break down a brick wall for a friend. I am hoping for help again with the family.

Here is the link to the original post. I feel it may help

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=724186.msg5718585#msg5718585

We have found out a few things since.
Harry Ryan & Edith May Neal finally married 26 May 1911 in the Roman Catholic Church in St. Heliers, Jersey.

Their children Daniel, and Ethel were presented at the service and granted legitimacy.

However, the marriage appears not to have lasted. Harry's WW1 file states he's married to Edith but her address is unknown. He lists Daniel and Ethel as children but also a son John 2 yrs old with guardian Mrs Cliff, 47? St. Katherines Rd?, Notting Hill.

This is crossed out so guessing not a legitimate child.

The family I'm trying to help would love to know who John aged 2 is. Did he have any children?
Have they a half family?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, but also realise we are getting into the "possible living" area.

We also have no idea what happened to Harry or Edith after 1911.

Here is WW1 record for those who have FindMyPast, can't find it on Ancestry.

Thank you in advance

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / 1736 Hitcham Marriage Lookup Please
« on: Saturday 04 November 17 21:25 GMT (UK)  »
Boyd's has a marriage record of John Clover marrying Martha Peg in Hitcham 1736.

If anyone has access to the registers I would be very grateful for a look up. Especially interested in groom's parish and occupation if mentioned, but any info would be more than welcome.

Thank you

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Wattisham Marriage Lookup Please
« on: Wednesday 25 May 16 14:41 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone may be able to check the records of a Wattisham marriage for me, please?

Suffolk Marriage Index has a John Goff and Elizabeth Cooper marriage in Wattisham 01 Dec 1761.

This may be my couple, but if so they are about 25 miles away from where I expected them and 5 months after the death of John's first wife. Not impossible, I admit.

I'd be very interested in their marital status, and if any parishes or groom's occupation is mentioned.

Thank you

I am trying to find details of the marriage of John Peacock to Emily Allen 17 Apr 1872, St. Nicholas, Sandhurst.

Particularly interested in whether John was a widower or bachelor and his father's details.

If anyone is able to look this up for me I would be very grateful.

Thankyou

The Common Room / 10 Year Brick Wall - Help Needed
« on: Sunday 28 June 15 09:27 BST (UK)  »
I posted this some years ago but asked the wrong questions in the wrong section, as I assumed it would be fairly straight forward. I was wrong.

Have been trying to help someone trace their grandparents with very little luck.

Details we have are:

01 June 1908 from birth cert.
Son Daniel Ryan born 37 Camelot St, Southwark to Harry Ryan Tramway Platelayer & Edith Formally O'Neil

1909 from on-line Electoral Register
Harry at same address

24 March 1910 from birth cert.
Daughter Ethel Ryan born 43 Tabard St, Southwark to Harry Ryan Tramway Platelayer & Edith Formally O'Neil

1911
Not found either by name or address search

20 Oct 1912
Both children admitted to St. Joseph's Convent Home.

The children ever knew why they were sent there or anything more of their parents. All the Convent records except dates of admissions and discharge dates are lost.

Any help or suggestions of where to research next would be greatfully appreciated, as I am stuck. Even a day at the LMA was of no help.

Thanks

Ancestry has the daughter's name transcribed as Zebeath.

Can anyone see a more 'common' name, please? To date I've found no one by that name in the line

Surname is Choppin

Thanks

*** Edit - they did have a daughter Elizabeth but I can't see that here

Quaker Family History / Quaker Records
« on: Sunday 24 May 15 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Have been fighting a brick wall for ages with my Essex Marriage line.

Try putting 'Marriage' into a search engine.  ;D

A recent discovery of a will, Francis Marriage 1702 shows the family were Quakers. I've never researched them before, so does anyone know how I can go about it, please?

Visit to TNA would not be easy for me.

Thanks

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Bildeston Marriage Check Please
« on: Monday 13 April 15 10:11 BST (UK)  »
IGI gives a marriage 16 Dec 1760 in Bildeston between William Weymark & Elizabeth Cooper.

I wondered if any one is able to confirm the entry in the PR please? and would be particularly interested in the bride's parish and names of any witnesses.

Thank you
