Derry (Londonderry) / Chasing Laughland, Lachlan, Lanchline, Laughlan
« on: Monday 21 May 18 02:45 BST (UK)  »
This is an old topic revived from 2019 (updated) and I wondered if there might be any more information available now.

I have a William Laughlan & Jane Stewart supposedly married c. 1826 in Ireland.   William himself was born in Ireland about 1800.     Any more information available?

Their first son, also William Laughlan (actually he may not be the first son, I don't know of any other kids) William was born in Drumachose, Derry. on 15th April 1827.    This William had a son called Samuel Laughlan who was born 1851, Barony, Lanarkshire.   I understand William (Samuel's mother), who COULD have been Elizabeth .....?    died a few years later, and Samuel was brought up by his father and new wife Jane Grieve, who married 16 Oct 1855 in Govan, Lanark, Scotland.   Williams first wife Elizabeth .....? was also born in Ireland,

Can anyone find the marriage of William Laughland & Jane Stewart please?  And any other children of that marriage?   Plus the Elizabeth in Ireland who married the William b 1827?

I have had Laughlan spelt Laughland, Lachlan - even Lanchline - which makes things a bit difficult.  My own maiden name was Lochlin!

Canada / Cudney, Bathsheba
« on: Saturday 13 January 18 02:50 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please expand on the above Bathsheba Cudney b 24 Jul 1829 died 11 Mar 1907 who married John B Goring about 1849 at Niagara on the Lake.   They had 5 children
Mary Ann
Melina Jane
Frederick Augustus
Almeda
Catherine Adeline

Bathsheba's parents who I want to expand on are Ezekiel Cudney (and possibly Mary).   I have several unlinked Cudney's in my tree.

I am in Australia and do not have access to Word Heritage Ancestry.

Thanks
Judy

Lancashire Lookup Requests / John Cook of Manchester or Hampshire????
« on: Saturday 18 October 14 22:58 BST (UK)  »
I am from Australia.  My relative is John Cook b 31 Dec  1843, Petersfield, Hants.
He had (at least) one son Frank b 1871 Wareham, Dorset, d West Perth, West Aust 9 Jan 1912.

John Cook supposedly married Elizabeth Ann Hatchard b 23 June 1944 Langton, Matravers, Dorset.
Several notices refer to John Cook as from Manchester (not Hans) and although everything else fits in, I cannot understand why they say John Cook is from Manchester, as they are nowhere near each other.

Does this mean John married someone else and had a son Frank, tho Frank, according to death notices, shows his wife as Susannah Lukie Cook (nee Williams)

I am happy with all aspects of my finding, but just need to clarify why the family say he is from Manchester.

Bear in mind the spealling of Laughlin - I have seen it spelt all manner of ways Laughlan, Laughland, Lachlan.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Here's a challenge :-\

I should point out that I do not have the photo, only a photo copy, and it is very very small, about 202x141 pixels.

I have my doubts about it being able to be enlarged, but it is the only photo I have of my late father in law, and as none of the family met him, we'd all like to see just what he looked like.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Mail ships of 1800s
« on: Wednesday 21 November 12 00:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to decipher the type and name of ship my ancestor was on before he drowned on another ship - the Quetta off the Qld coast in 1890.  The attachment has been taken from his marriage certificate in 1877.

Renfrewshire / Relationship John McLaren to George Hepburn Laughland
« on: Friday 21 September 12 23:41 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to link the relationship of John McLaren who witnessed the death of his cousin George Hepburn Laughlan on 28th January 1861.  John lived in 8 Moncrieff Street, Paisley, and his late cousin lived in 4 Moncrieff Street.    George was 3½ when he died.

I wondered if John McLaren was on 1841 & 1851 census?

Can anyone help?   I should add that Laughlan has been spelt a number of ways including Lachlan Laughland Lochlin Maclachlan
