Many thanks for this additional information. Henrietta's second name was Beamon, her mother's maiden name. This seems to have changed to Beatrice over time.

The Tasmanian family stem from Thomas Alfred Probert 1867 of Disserth, Radnorshire, son of Thomas Alfred 1837 and Margaret Lloyd 1842.  He spent some time in Cheltenham boy's orphanage and emigrated in 1890s.

Thanks for your help.
This is the correct Reuben - he went on to have another couple of children in Queensland. Still can't link him to the Tasmanian family tho'.  Just have to keep looking !!

John,
In 1954 electoral roll I found Joyce Pauline Probert at the same address as Neah Probert in Tasmania. Every other reference to Joyce places her in Queensland, possibly a descendant of Reuben. I know Neah's ancestry and I assume there must be a relationship to the Queensland family as it's not a very common name.

I found "Alic Alber"' but thought it  perhaps should be "Alice".

Hi
I'm looking for info on Reuben Probert b. around 1836-7. I know he married Mary Ann and emigrated to Australia (Queensland) around 1883-4. Who were his parents?  I'm trying to find a link, probably in UK, between the Proberts in Q'land and those in Tasmania whose ancestry I do know.
Thanks, Kate

Thanks, folks, for such quick replies. I'll now have to go back to UK records and try to find a link between Reuben and my known ancestors.

John, it's Alex Alber Probert, not Albert - I assumed it was an error initially, but he's on several electoral rolls. I found an Alex Probert who sailed Bremerhaven to Sydney 1911, but don't know if it's the same person.

Thanks, Kate

Australia / Probert family in Queensland
« on: Friday 27 April 12 17:12 BST (UK)  »
While researching Proberts of Tasmania, I have come across a connection to a family in Queensland. The earliest record I can find is 1903 electoral roll Frederick William Probert and Ernest James Probert.  Can anyone tell me whether they were born there or emigrated from UK - probably Wales as it's Welsh name. I've also found Francis Edward Probert and Alex Alber Probert. Any help at all would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Kate

Thanks Merlin (I think!)
This has opened a whole new box of tricks. Loads more Proberts, but I can't see how they're linked to the Tasmanian family! I assume they must be, somehow.

Thanks to all your help, I've filled a lot of blanks in my Tasmanian Probert tree.  I've now come up with another problem. The electoral roll for 1954 shows Joyce Pauline Probert, a nurse, living with Neah Probert (also a nurse) in Campbell St, Hobart. Does anyone know who Joyce is/was? I can find no other reference to her.
Thanks, Kate
