Canada / I feel like i am chasing a shadow... need advice
« on: Monday 11 September 17 19:18 BST (UK)  »
Was doing some research for a woman in Canada who emigrated there 40 years ago. She asked me if i could trace any of her ex husbands friends,he had died recently.

Had regular contact ( every 2-3 weeks, ) giving her updates on who was still about!!!

Suddenly all contact stopped with a cryptic email saying she had been involved in a car accident and following that, they had 'found something'

Contacted a mate in Canada who put me on to someone, who knew them and through him a woman who gave me a bit more info

Seems she had been severely injured in this accident and was confined to a wheelchair... the 'something' she guesssed was cancer, and she had returned to the UK to stay with a brother

Now i have tried Ancestry/find my past for any marriage certificates in the UK, i only have her married name, and cannot find anything even near the possible dates to make a a start

Have contacted a group in Canada to see if they could assist in advising any records Deaths/divorces i could search to see if i could even find an address that i might write to a possible ex- neighbour for any info. .......but nothing, the reply was very terse!

It really feels like this women did not exist, and the only info i have on her is the area she lived and the forenames of two friends, plus she was a carer who use to visit disabled people, nd the boat she owned ( no name was moored in Sarasota.

Any ideas  on what i can do   most welcome

Thanks

Hello Anna and thanks for the quick response, please bear with the resume

John b1792 on 1841 census shows occ Gasworks Labourer
John 1817 marr cert  shows father John Vale labourer
1817 John went on to be a Gasworks manager (link?)
Now this is why i want to find out if there is a relationship here

John 1792 married( remarried?) in 1828 and had two sons Elijah and Reuben

Reuben married in 1854 had three daughters and one son and then died in 1869, (the mother had already died in 1864)
The three daughters by 1871 appear to be working or in service but Harry (the son) aged 8
b1863 turns up in the 1871 census as John 1817 SON!!
in the 1881 census he is shown as his nephew
I cannot find any definite records that show John 1792 marrying prior to 1828, BUT first time at 36 does seem a little odd
My conjecture is that John 1792 did marry about 1812 and had John b1817 the mother  dying. between then and 1828. He then had Elijah( who goes off the radar completely after 1861) only a daughter located and Rueben, and when Reuben died took Harry under his wing
Harry then got married had one son (my grandad) and then died. Grandma once said that when my dad was born she kept her husband under close watch!!

So if there is a link, then I have some relations with the name Vale with John 1792 as common ancestor, other than that the line may run out with my lad as my dad brother only had daughters
This is why i would like someone near to the ERO who has the time to do some digging there for me.

Hope this is clear!!

Are there people on here who like doing a bit of dectective work (nothing really problematical!)?
I have hit a wall for the following

I am trying to find out if there is a father/son link between John Vale b 1792 at Butckberry(sp) Essex possibly Buttsbury

and John Vale b 1817 at either Stifford or Stanford le hope (both towns shown on Census)

My search at Essex RO only found a Peter Vale who married at Buttsbury Chuch in 1790, so that could be the father of John (1792) but traces of a marriage for him or christening for John (1817) proved elusive, although i only had a rather small visiting period available and may well have missed looking in the obvious place
Fisrt time poster so sorry if this is in wrong place, all assistance welcomed

Thanks

Ron
