Our ancestors have a lot to answer!!!!

Between legalities of the day, religious beliefs and, sadly, ignorance, unthreading the knots of the looks like, could bes, maybes, possiblities is an absolute nightmare.

But I'm getting there, slowly

Thank you everyone for the help, the humour and the insight

Oh I have already discovered his previous marriage to an Ellen Richards in 1860.

So, that's four marriages.............

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I love the sense of humour shown.
I was quite happy to think that they first married in the Reg Off (for whatever reason) and then, with the birth of their daughter Ellen, were "obliged" to marry "properly"

And then you throw in another marriage Jan 1881 to Annie Duffy. The personal facts of husband James are exactly the same as my James query. This Annie may have died 3mths after the marriage. But she was 18 at death, James would have been 60. The same Annie??

This family, James Flood, is certainly a mystery. Three marriages in the space of 2 years. Two to the same woman!!!!!!!

Dublin / Same couple marry 1st Reg Off and then Church

Hi,
Can anyone explain why a couple first married in the Dublin Reg Off (with no apparent legal or religious reason) and then two years later marry in St Andrew's? They were both widows so why the Reg Office? And then the Church?

James Flood and Ellen Daniel Killeen

Tyrone / Re: Bridget McSorley b:1888 Castlederg

Thank you but, as seen in my post, I already know about her birth and Census details.
I'm trying to find out what happened to her after 1911. Did she marry? If she did, I have yet to find a record. Not knowing her married name I won't be able to find a death. Not marrying, I have yet to find a record of death

I am trying to find Bridget McSorley born 15 Aug 1888 Castlederg; daughter of Patrick McSorley and Susan Thompson.

All I know of her is what I have found on the 1901/1911 Census. As of yet, no marriage, if any, nor a death.

In 1911 she is living with her sister Catherine (my gt grandmother) Lecky Rd Derry. Catherine died in 1962 and unfortunately there is no living family who can tell me if they remember Bridget or heard any stories about her. I don't think Bridget was living with Catherine at the time of Catherine's death but I don't know if that means she was already deceased herself or living elsewhere, most likely Castlederg.

1901: aged 12; Catholic; born Tyrone; liv 4 Garnett Tce Castlederg; Included in census is her father Patrick, her mother Susan and her sister Susan

1911: aged 21 (23); Catholic; born Derry; liv 40 Lecky Rd; a servant.Included in census is her sister Catherine, Catherine’s husband John McAnee, her nephews James, Patrick, John, Joseph, Hugh and William and o re than niece Mary
Although Census shows Bridget and Catherine's place of birth as Derry, it was actually Castlederg

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Can anyone help me with details of Ann McLaughlin who drowned in the river Foyle (Derry) 17 Aug 1888. She was married and aged about 70.
I found a record of death in irishgenealogy.ie but have been unable to find anything else about her: circumstances, family etc.
Any help greatly appreciated

As St Patrick's wasn't built until 1930/31 it wouldn't have been here that they had their requiem Mass. St Baithan's, however, is a good possibility for burial.
