Many thanks for the post, Sandy.  It has been a while since I was on here, so I was pleased to see this great old picture.  You can see the "B" of the The Boot Inn on the wall far right above the P. Phipps & Co signage.

Hope things are well? Take care.

Hi Steve:

Welcome to the forum. And thanks for the post.  As I noted on the previous page of this thread, I have not been able to find any link between your Smith Hemmings line and my family line.  I will be sure to let you know if I do come across anything.

Best regards, rthom

England / SARGEANT - HILL Marriage, c1721
« on: Thursday 19 December 13 15:34 GMT (UK)  »
After many years of searching, I have finally come across a lead (Find My Past, citing the Society of Genealogists) for the marriage of my 6x great-grandparents Edward Sargeant and Elizabeth Hill. The information provided is:

License date: 29 Nov 1721
Groom: Edw'd SARGEANT
Bride: Elizabeth HILL

Unfortunately there is no other information provided, such as the location or parish.  The only other clue I have is that Edward and Elizabeth baptized their son Thomas Hill Sargent, Jan 18, 1723, in Twickenham, Middx.  They also had a second son, Edward, my 5x great-grandfather, around the same time, but his baptism has not yet come to light.

There are several variants for the SARGEANT name including: Sergeant, Sargent, Sergent, Serjeant, Sarjeant, etc.

I would greatly appreciate any help that could be provided by the experts on the board to locate the parish for the marriage.  And, of course, if any of this rings a bell with anyone reading this post, I would love to hear from you to compare notes.

Many thanks in anticipation,

rthom

Hello jeh1967:

I am afraid your family is not connected with my tree.  But I will let you know if I come across anything interesting.

Hi Billy:

Many thanks for this info.  It came as a surprise to find William all the way up in Scotland.  But perhaps the printing trade provided opportunities for travel -- and evidently your Fleming family had links to London.  Did your Flemings come from London before 1851? Or where they from Scotland?

Regards,
rthom

Hi Norair:

Thanks for making contact.  And welcome to the forum.  I'm afraid I have not come across a Smith Hemmings in my diggings so far, so I am afraid I am not able to draw any connections. I can see your Smith Hemmings, 28, in the 1911 Census in Northampton living with his wife Barbara and children Walter, George and Lizzie.  In 1891, Smith is recorded as the son of John & Ann Hemmings.  Your family appears to come from Fenton Staffordshire.

Regards, rthom
