Tried the Prunella line, no good as from South Island.

Will look at the Wilson births and see if can link to John Stewart Wilson as a Sibling in any way.

Thanks Girls, you have been busy and greatly appreciate your help. You may have stumbled on something with that list, maybe the family left new Zealand and came back. You know how you keep things just in case. In 1878 (pastpapers)on the boat Soukar from London came John Wilson, Ellen Wilson, Mary Wilson, Ellen Wilson, Prunella Wilson, Edward Wilson, Alex Wilson and Ellen Wilson. That Prunella just stared out at me as being born in NZ. Wonder if same one as born here. Will look at this.

Yes I have copies of all these included in my research. I utilise Pastpapers and have all the children and death notices but no leads for parents. I have purchased the certificates  marriage/death for John Stewart Wilson and was provided the John Wilson and Ellen Sym from Northumberland as parents. That is all I have - my brick wall.

There is a John Stewart Wilson on the South Island and is a different one than the one I'm researching. From all accounts my didn't stray from the North Island it seems.

New Zealand Completed Requests / John Wilson and Ellen Sym
« on: Wednesday 21 October 15 23:01 BST (UK)  »
I believe John Wilson (listed as labourer/maybe carpenter) and Ellen Sym were born in Northumberland and may have ended up in New Zealand. I only have these names as are off John Stewart Wilson (son) marriage certificate in 1894.
I am trying to find them on a boat or even ages/death so can go back further. Maybe John jnr came with someone else to NZ??

Their son John Stewart Wilson is believed to have been abt 5yrs when arriving in New Zealand. He was listed as a carpenter/joiner.John Stewart Wilson married Kate Blandford in 1894 cert notes John Stewart Wilson was 24yrs, then married Dorothy Louise Blandford as Kate died. John Stewart Wilson death certificate in 1933 says he was 60. Have no other evidence of siblings. John Stewart Wilson lived in Petone/Featherstone/Married Dorothy in Hastings/ Died Petone. Any ideas, so many Wilsons.Buried old Taita cemetery.

Many thanks for the ideas. All suggestions welcome and will relook at, Want to break this brick wall.

The marriage certificate shows parents as Ellen Wilson nee Sym (NZ marriage 1894) and father as John Wilson (Labourer). Could be second marriage for mother, not sure if came to NZ with parents really or if parents died in NZ, but presumed John jnr  was about five so documents say. Cant even confirm if had siblings. Did check births with Ellen and John but heaps of them, never narrow that down either.

John Stewart Wilson (jnr) was a Carpenter/Joiner at 24 yrs.

Married Kate in 1894 (says he was 24), then married Dorothy and had 7 kids. Lived Featherstone/Petone/Masterton - Wellington with first wife Kate. Dorothy and John married in Hastings, NZ.

John jnr died NZ 1933, death certificate says lived in NZ 55 yrs. John snr was listed as a carpenter/labourer on most docs. Don't think left NZ as shows him in most census with Dorothy.

Have used pastpapers and no links with living family that I can tell. I also have the cemetery list for the old cemeteries, sourced from family still over there (NZ) that have helped out a lot. Thought throwing out may help, someone may find the link one day. I left it for a year and have come back to this side with fresh eyes, review and looked at again and again, nothing overlooked. A sibling with a easier name or something may help. Thank you for your great ideas, will relook again, maybe Scotland like you say

Have checked witnesses, no relation. I have had no luck finding anything on the parents or them arriving on a boat, way to many Wilsons arriving in that time frame in New Zealand. Also way to many Ellen/Helen/Eleanor marry John/Jack Wilsons to even have a guess at buying the correct one. Have no idea on other siblings. Did the census and the first one available shows him married and living with his wife, no others residing with them. Checked all censuses and never any older people with him, as sometimes they more in when one parent dies. But no luck he was also dead at 60 , had two wives, the second wife was half sister to the first wife. I have access to ancestry, but have very little on Northumberland on line. Did subscribe to family past for month but no luck like you said. Unless sym is incorrect, people did change names on travelling to leave ex hubby or something behind.

Hi

New Zealand Marriage certificate (1894) give parents surnames and lists him as being born in Northumberland. His first marriage certificate has him (John Stewart Wilson)as being born 1870.
Death certificate says born 1873 and arrived NZ when he was 5yrs of age. So possibly marriage certificate could be correct but then they lied a lot when marrying someone younger; but she was same age, big guess really and a brick wall.
