Hi

Sorry for not answering straight away -- the certs I sent were obtained by me back in 1981 from the Registry of BD&M in Sydney.  I believe they are the original Birth and Marriage Certs.  I keep coming back to the Marriage Certificate of my Great Grandparents Deikelmann/Janson knowing that those are the exact names on my Grandmothers marriage  and birth certificates.

These I believe to be correct and this is of course my starting point.  Thought I was no the right track but now there seems to be a whole lot of question marks.  I know that Eliza (otherwise known as Dolly) did remarry a Dalton but it is Eliza's parents I really want to know about.   Boy oh boy this gets complicated.

I hava attached these certs for you to see (hope I am doing this right)

Regards

Thank for all your help.  Perhaps you can see my problem.  Just when I think I have the right George Janson and Eliza ??? I begin to question again too.

I have attached copies of the IKIN documents I have.  Hope this may shed some light.

Many thanks again,  I really do value you opinion.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this problem.  Still not sure about Eliza Ikin but seem more than convinced that perhaps Eliza Rankin is the right person.

Things I was told were:

There was Italian in the family ie George Janson I believe and some talk about a convict in the family - not spoken about very much when I was a kid.

Seems like Eliza Rankin is just the person.  Quite exciting really.  Bit sure what she did.

George and Eliza would be my great great grandparents.

The first Eliza Jane Janson married to Charles Diekelmann was also known as Dolly and she later married Charlie Dalton.  This was confirmed by an elderly aunt in her 90's.  Diekelman died when my Grandmother "Erna Diekelmann" was very young.
So I am now searching for information on Janson and Rankin and thanks to everyone who has assisted I am on my way.  I have attached a document to show verification

I am  very new to this so please bear with me ... I am looking for information onEliza Jane Janson's parents.

Eliza's marriage cert states she was wed on 1 December 1890 in Sydney to Charles Henry Diekelmann from Hamburg.

Eliza's parents were George Janson and Eliza Rankin -- so any information on both of them would be appreciated.

Charles parents will be I would suspect much harder they are Frederick August Diekelmann (Piano Maker) and Henrietta Wineke.  I have tried looking on many German sites but to no avail.

Not sure if you are able to assist, however any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I thought I was onto the right track but unfortunately I don't think I was.

I obtained a lot of certificates back in 1981 and I think I may have been given Certificates for the wrong Eliza Jane.  I have been tracing with great success the surname IKIN wwhich I think now maybe wrong.

Thank you in anticipation, Sue

Oh dear.  I think I might have made a big mistake.  I may have got my Eliza's mixed up.

The marriage certificate of Charles Henry Diekelmann and Eliza Jane Janson married on 1 December 1890 shows Eliza's parents to be George Janson and Eliza Rankin? - This Certificate is correct. BUT...

Now I don't know why I have a birth certificate for Eliza Jane Ikin DOB  12 April 1871 and a marriage certifcate for Eliza Ikin and a George Genson (could be Janson) with a marriage date of 15 April 1865.

I found these certificates that I had requested back in July 1981 from NSW Birth, Deaths and Marriages.

Completely confused now.

Any advice please,  Regards Sue

I have an update but don't seem to be able to go any further after days of searching.

From the marriage certificate in Sydney Australia, dated 1 December 1890 of Charles Henry Diekelmann born Hamburg, Seaman. aged 26 and Eliza Jane Janson born Pyrmont Sydney aged 22 I now know that his father was Fredrick (or Frederick)(difficult to read) August Diekelman Piano maker and his mother was Henrietta Wineke.

They were married at the Scotts Church Jamieson Street, Sydney

Unfortunately the copy of the Marriage Certificate is not of good quality.

I have tried to search for Both Fredrick August Diekelman and Henrietta Wineke on german databases as listed above but to no avail.

Thank you all once again for the above information.

Any more suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards, Sue

Once again, I can't thank you enough.  You are fantastic.  I don't have much to go on for the Janson side of the family.  I did try the link you sent but did not get too far, however, the Ikin side of the family is proving to be very exciting.  I think I am on the right track and through lots of researching and hours and hours (I love this even though nothing much is getting done in my house at the moment) I have come across some good information and I think I am right.  I emailed the person who placed this info on the net but as yet have not had a reply.

I cannot afford to subscribe to Ancestory.com so I am always looking for otherways to find information that is correct and the following sites seem to be correct I can only hope that they are:

http://www.easystreetretreat.com.au/australianroyalty/individual.php?pid=I76482&ged=purnellmccord.ged

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~grthom/index.html

I can only hope that perhaps I will get a response.

I really can not thank you
enough for  your assistance and encouragement to spur me on

Thank you everyone who gave me some very valuable information. WOW WOW WOW!  I am still learning and loving it!

Kind of just as confused now.  You see I now know that Carl (Charles) Diekelmann married Eliza Jane Janson on 1 Dec 1890 at Scotts Church Jamieson Street Sydney.

In 1894 my Grandmother Erna Dorothy Diekelman was born.  I also think she had a sister Frieda

Carl Diekelman died in South Africa 7 May 1897

Now I believe Eliza Jane Janson (Diekelman) remarried a Dalton I think his name was Charles.

I have no idea who Dolly Diekelmann is - perhaps Carl remarried or perhaps Dolly was a nickname for Eliza?

My search continues I now have Eliza's parents who are Eliza Rankin and a George Janson (would you believe it) born in Italy...think I may have gone as far as I can with George Janson.
Thank you all once again and any advice is really valuable to me
