:( You'll have surely noticed there's no mention of Ann in the above children. I find this however:

Name:    Ann Ross

Baptism/Christening Place:    PERTH,PERTH,SCOTLAND
Birth Date:    19 Oct 1743

Mother's Name:    Isabell Hutton

I think, not sure but think, this Isabell Hutton is Janet. I find no other children for a Patrick and Isabell, nor do I find any marriage for them.

Hope it helps.  Robt

Hi Tiffaney, I have a Patrick Ross who married Janet Hutton Jan 25, 1741 in Tibbermore, Perthshire. Seeing that Alexander and Ann's first daughter is named Janet,  and the year of marriage is prior to Ann's birth, it may be the right marriage.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Throth, I put some info I found on the "MENZIES, Kathrine - Perth., Scotland." post, hopefully it'll be some help. I'm afraid at least on my end I don't have a Peter Galletly. Sorry.

Throth, you'd posted on the other board about the surname McLauchlin someone was looking for. I found these on FamilySearch in the IGI. Maybe they'll help? I came back to the boards and noticed this post, figured it was the best place for this.

As you probably know, there,s usually more information, but the fields that were empty I've left out to save space.

John Mclachlan bp 6 Sep 1801 MOULIN,PERTH
b 3 Sep 1801 son of John Mclachlan & Kathrine Menzies

Sibling?

Fergus Mclachlan bp    25 Jan 1807 MOULIN,PERTH
b 22 Jan 1807 son of John Mclachlan & Catherine Menzies

These are more likely banns, not a marriage, but they're both here:

John Mclauchlan & Katharine Menzies 17 Jan 1795 Blair Atholl,Perth

John Mclachlan & Katharine Menzies 17 Jan 1795 Moulin,Perth

These two are the only ones I found that matched the date criteria as far as age to be married in 1795, so I copied them, but they may not be the right people:

Katharine Menzies bp  9 Jun 1772 BLAIR ATHOLL,PERTH b 8 Jun 1772
daughter of Alexr. Menzies & Margaret Stewart

John Mclauchlan bp   07 Jul 1772 MOULIN,PERTH
son of John Mclauchlan & Helen Mckiesaig

Hope it's useful.

    Hi  guys.
Again I can't thank you enough. Throth, you asked if the Perthshire militia were fighting in the Napoleonic Wars, as far as I know the answer is no. You can find out more at this link:
http://www.scottishmilitaryarticles.org.uk/smhsarticle_Lineage_Militia.htm
It's a site on all the Scottish units from about the 17th century on. Pretty interesting stuff.
As for Helen Galletly, I've attached what was sent to me by my much-removed cousin in Perth. As you can see in it they spelled the name Gellatly, but I believe it's Galletly. I've often run across this spelling mistake, largely I'm sure because of the proximity of the two different spelling families.
You folks have been a boon to me and my research. Thank you all so very much. If there's anything I can do to repay in any way your kindness, please don't hesitate to ask. If I don't hear or get back to you before, I wish you all Happy Holidays.

Wow! I have to say you folks are just wonderful! I'm truly appreciative of all the help and support I've received on this board, I can't express that enough.

I know it would be helpful to find him on the census and see his death certificate and such, and I'm fairly certain I could do both on Scotlands People, but as I've mentioned, the cost is prohibitive right now. Unfortunately, I've been out of work going on 6 months, so things as you can imagine are a bit tight, and the genealogy has to take a back seat to more important things. But enough of my tale of woe.

This is what I have: David Galletly, son of David and Margaret Scott, born July 22, 1815 in Bridgend, Perth. He married Ann (Agnes) McLean Dec 11, 1841 in Scone. Ann was born July 9, 1820 in Methven, Perthshire. Their first son (and these are just the ones I have record of) was John, born May 6, 1842 in Scone. Next was Alexander, born July 3, 1843 in Scone. Then came William, who was born July 23, 1845, also in Scone. Whether or not there were other children I haven't been able to find out. All this info came from the IGI, I have no copies of any original documents to verify or expand on any of it, other than David and Margaret's other children. As I wrote before, David Jr. was not among them.

I would imagine all David and Ann's children and possibly more would be in the 1851 census at least. If anyone knows of another, free source for the census I'd love to hear of it. I'd hate for anyone to be using up their credits on Scotlands People on my account. It's just not that important right now.

Throth, hello and thank you. If you're local and can without too much trouble or any cost look up David and Ann's marriage and verify the parents, that would be tremendously helpful. Again, David's are listed on the IGI as David and Margaret Scott, Ann's as Alexander McLean and Ann Young.

And Ev, as always, thank you. You're a peach!

Hi Ev. As far as I know, David stayed in Scotland. His son William born 1845 in Scone, my ancestor, married Agnes Scobie in 1874 also in Scone. So at least by 1874 it seems they were still in Scotland. Some short time after that William and Agnes moved to near Manchester, where two of their three daughters were born. Their last daughter was born in Hunslet, Yorkshire, where William died in 1884. He was listed as a "timekeeper" on the 1881 census, probably at one of the mills nearby.

William's middle daughter Isabella was my great-grandmother. She was born in Patrycroft, Lancashire in 1878. At some point, probably not long after William died, the family seems to have moved back to Scotland. That's where Isabella met and married William Speed. Their first three children were all born in Scotland. They emigrated to the States in 1909, to Massachusetts.

I have no date of death for either of the Davids, father or son. The one you wrote of earlier Ev, in 1852, is very likely the father, but right now I can't be sure. David was such a common name with the Galletlys, it makes it doubly tough.

Cambron, thanks for the reply, I have that info also. Problem for me is I have a ScotlandsPeople account, but right now with the economy here in Montana being as it is, getting copies from them is not in the budget. For a while at least I have to limit myself to what I can find elsewhere. I've found plenty of possibles there, but the listing doesn't tell enough, I'd need to see the original, and well, you know how expensive that can be. :(

Thank you both for such quick replies and the welcome. Ev, I do have that information from the IGI, but I've found nothing else to substantiate it. I recently came across a distant cousin of mine who lives near Perth, and she sent me copies from the register there of all David and Margaret's children, but David (jr.) was not one of them. She was a little surprised by that, as was I. I've done enough of this over the years to know the IGI can be wrong, so I'm trying to find confirmation from another source. I haven't seen the microfiche the IGI has yet, unfortunately I live over 40 miles from the nearest Family History Center, but it's on my to-do list.

I've learned the hard way from past mistakes that it's always better to have at least 2 corroborating sources, preferably three (or more) but as the records get older and further back in time that's not always possible. I'm hoping that someone might have a different source than the IGI that shows the family relationship.

That might be the father Ev, he was also according to his children's birth records first a corporal (1805) than a sergeant in the Perth Royal Militia.

Thanks for the forum offer Tiffaney, I'll check it out. And thank you both for the help.

Looking for the parents of David Galletly, born Jul 22, 1815 in Bridgend, Perth. He married Ann (Agnes) McLean in 1841 at Scone. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
