Trying to trace back my family roots I have managed to trace back to a Henry Lambert born in Wimbledon in 1789, but not having much luck in the parish records before then although I found 1 more Lambert, born in 1695 (all Lamberts in my tree have lived in Wimbledon). I then found some information relating to Major General John Lambert, who was a major player in the Civil War, which described how he spent a considerable amount of time in Wimbledon (he owned Wimbledon House). During the restoration, after a number of escapades, John Lambert was tried for high treason, lost his estates and sentenced to imprisonment. He and his wife had ten children; I have found information that suggests that his wife and three children were allowed by the King to set up house in Guernsey, where he was imprisoned for a time, but I cannot find any reference to the rest of the children. I am wondering whether it is possible that one or more of his children decided to stay in Wimbledon and the line progressed from there?
Does anyone have any further information of John Lamberts descendants? Failing that, does anyone have information on any Lamberts in Wimbledon from before 1780?
Many Thanks
Simon
