I had seen that name and hadnt given it much consideration,  but now you mention it, I'll try and trace Charlotte's movements, i may get some clues from that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Shropshire / Ann Whitfield, born Halghton 1823
« on: Sunday 07 August 16 18:53 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out what happened to Ann Whitfield after 1871 when the census showed her working at a farm in Welshampton.
She was born in Halghton in 1823, and her first son William was born in 1845, in the 1851 census, he was recorded as living with his grandparents Richard and Elizabeth, whilst Ann was working as a servant at the local Halghton Hall.
The 1861 Census shows her in the Ellesmere Union Workhouse with three more children, Ellis, Eliza and Alan.
In the 1871 census they had all left and were living at different addresses in the Welshampton, Hanmer and Halghton areas.
The trail then goes cold. I am posting this in the hope that someone else has perhaps researched Ann and discovered what happened to her after this time - did she marry and if so, to whom, and when and where did she die. She was my g g grandmother and I'm very curious as to what happened to her, any information would be gladly received.

Just to update this thread, I emailed the vicar at Cound church, who passed on my query to the church warden. She very kindly checked the records and found Hannah was buried at Cound church on 30th October 1918. Success at last.  Thanks to anyone who has tried to help in the past.

We have Shropshire Family History Society booklets of monumental/memorial inscriptions for both these churchyards and there are burials well after 1918, but as i dont think she would have had a memorial stone, i need to find records but not sure where to go next. Shropshire archives werent able to help me either.

It was over three years ago i enquired about my grandmothers burial place and i still havent found it. Apparantly, shropshire archives havent got burial records for Cound after 1899 and they haven't got any for Acton Burnell. I think these are the most likely places she would be but now don't know where I'd find this information.  Any thoughts or observations would be appreciated.

TB could also be considered.

As YT says - get the death certificates and you will know.

Wiggy

Thanks, yes, I think i will get the death certificates,  I've hesitated to do this as I've spent quite a bit on these over the years.

What area are you referring to?

Regards

Malky

At the time of their deaths they were living at or near Prees, nr whitchurch, shropshire. Thanks for your replies,  the diptheria suggestion is interesting, my mother always had a terrible fear of us getting it,  I'm now wondering if she knew of something about these deaths.

As the heading says, really. I have found 4 of my ancestors died at a very young age between 1907 and 1909. Two were sisters aged 13 and 15 who both died in the same quarter in 1908. Their brother died aged 22yrs in 1907. Their mother also died soon after in 1909. I was just wondering if there was some awful virus that they succumbed to.
