London and Middlesex / Re: John Cramp 1762 - 1809

Reading through this thread has me intrigued.  William Edward Jury and wife Ann Cramp were my 3x great grandparents. William, a carman,  worked from premises in Commercial Road, Whitechapel.  He died at a young age, 31 I believe  while Ann may have remarried and continued the business, I have yet to research this.  I am descended through their son, John Cramp Jury ( 1819-1893.)

I am researching a Derbyshire family affected by Huntington's disease and trying to establish which branch of the family was originally afflicted.

I have a death certificate from 1866, the deceased a 37 year old female with cause of death given as consumption. Is it possible, given gaps in medical knowledge in former years, that consumption covered a multitude of sins, as it were, in the case of the deceased dying of various illnesses and diseases whether hereditary or acquired.

cobbs and Valda,
Many thanks for the information. This is indeed the marriage I have been looking for, I've been struggling for quite a while trying to piece together the Richardson 'jigsaw.'  One very happy Rootschatter!!

Thank you again,
Adie.

I forgot to mention in my last post that the Pack Saddle is just in Oxfordshire about a mile from Caversham Heights, which itself lay in Oxfordshire until the 1974 county boundary changes which saw Caversham absorbed into the borough of Reading.

Here's a press cutting showing the newly opened Pack Saddle bypass, I think from 1957. The road at that time was the B479, later redesignated A4074, known locally as the 13 bends of death on account of the large number of accidents on the stretch from the Pack Saddle to Cane End.
There are 3 pubs alongside the A4074 in the area, Pack Saddle, Pack Horse and the Fox at Cane End, though the latter is now an indian restaurant. People couldn't remember which order they stood in on the road out of Reading, so a local saying was devised- you put the saddle on the horse to chase the fox!
I believe there is now a small garden centre attached to the Pack Saddle.
