Thanks very much for the replies, and I will try contacting Edinburgh University. Very interesting information about the Halls of Residence. I assume my gran would have been a residential student, since her home had been in Sauchie. Thanks again, David.

Midlothian / Moray House

Hi, My grandmother attended Moray House for teacher training around 100 years ago. I don’t know the exact dates, but she was born in 1893 and was teaching in the 1920s. Does anyone know if a list of those who qualified/ graduated might still exist, and if so how that information might be accessed? Based on the above, I would estimate that she probably completed her studies around the period 1914-15, though I could be a year or two out. Thanks in advance for any information or advice. David.  :)

Norrie,
Thanks very much - that is really really helpful. If I send you a PM, could you then send me on the James Buchanan stone photo?

One last favour - if you know the approximate location of the James Buchanan stone, could you possibly state which of my numbered locations it is nearest?  - I've assumed that it is somewhere on the map below (hoping the map attaches OK and is readable!)
Thanks again for all your help.
David

Hi Norrie, thanks very much for your reply. Details are James Buchanan (d. 17/8/1920), and wife Betsy Thomson (d. 27/8/1924).

For information, you had kindly replied to an earlier post of mine (reply #86 on topic HEADSTONE INSCRIPTIONS East Wemyss & West Wemyss Cemeteries - Part 1) enquiring about James' parents, when you had listed all photographed Buchanan headstones, hence my assumption now that there is no stone, or legible stone, for James/ Betsy.

I am suspecting therefore that I'll need a cemetery plan for that section to identify the exact plot location?

Fife / Cemetery Plan (East Wemyss)
« on: Tuesday 19 May 15 22:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Can anyone please let me know if they have a cemetery plan for East Wemyss cemetery? I've been in contact with Fife Council and they have been very helpful in providing the lair number where my great grandparents are buried. However, plans are only available by visiting the Kirkcaldy office which I can't easily manage in working hours (I'm in Glasgow). The lair is described as in section G-South, and I suspect no (legible) stone exists. I'd be grateful for any advice or information.
Thank you
David

Clackmannanshire / Alloa Academy c 1910-11

With WW1 very topical this year, I was reminded of a family story. I'm told my gran (Mary Ramage) attended Alloa Academy, and at one time we had a photo in our family of her class around the time that she left school (probably c. 1910-11), and I was told that all of the boys in the photo were subsequently killed in WW1. I would be really interested if anyone knows if class photos from around that time might be available from any source, or if the above regarding the boys may be true.

Thank you

Hi,

Thanks very much for the latest reply - the further information is much appreciated, though I still don't quite yet have the reputed link to my Fife Andersons!

Best Wishes
