there is a book in hartlepool central hub library reference department by the name of "the lion roars and the monkey bites". it gives the history of public houses in hartlepool and west hartlepool.

durham hotel, durham street, hartlepool: originally owned by william stones in 1866 - brewer  nixey and coleclough in 1881 - j w cameron in 1895.

the hughes yarrow marriage was at st aidan's church, west hartlepool, on 7 september, 1915.

james hughes, aged 22, and a rivet maker.
son of james hughes.
1 wensleydale street, west hartlepool.

lillian kate yarrow, aged 19, and a spinster.
daughter of joseph oliver yarrow.
37 winter street, west hartlepool.

alexander, son of robert, deceased, married alma in holy trinity church, hartlepool, on 27 december, 1926. alma married as johnson in 1948 at st hilda's church, hartlepool.

there is a 1950 marriage for alexander r johnson to mary tuck at st hilda's church, hartlepool. details have been sent by pm in case they are still alive.

on "freebmd" there is a 1947 alexander johnson death for "durham south eastern" which includes hartlepool but NOT west hartlepool.

it was not a catholic marriage in st joseph's, west hartlepool, or st mary's, hartlepool. (two separate towns at the time). marriage certificate number is 999-10-0-69. unless they were non conformist strong possibility it was a register office marriage in either town.

he married in christ church, west hartlepool, on 9 september 1918. both addresses given as 33 archer street, west hartlepool, on church records. they do not appear at this address in the electoral roll books which are street indexed.
