Hello All

My nan (Phyllis Brock nee Caton) worked at SIMMS Motor Units in the 1940's. She was part of the work band that played in the canteen. There were 2 singers, my nan and another girl. There was a chap on the drums and two men on brass instruments. At weekends, they would go to the local parks (bandstands) to play.

She worked at one time as a Coil Winder for the airplane engine part. She then worked as an examiner to inspect items were correct. That's how she met the band leader, as he worked in one of the rooms nearby. He heard nan sing (as she was singing away while working) and asked if she would join in.

Thank you so much for that information. Where did you find this information? Was it online?

Heya!

Thank you so much for that update. It does sound good. I'd love to hear more and possibly have a copy of the certificate if you are willing to share?

Are you also connected to the Venables? I look forward to hearing from you (please PM me).

Many thanks

Hollie

What I have is:  Elizabeth Ballard, daughter of William and Ann Ballard, born 1807 Cheshunt, Christened 7 Apr 1807, died ABT 1867 - married BEF 1824 to George Venables

Hiya

I am a little concerned about this message, as I have different information regarding Elizabeth Ballard.

I have Elizabeth's parents as William Ballard and Mary and their other children included: John, Ann, George, James, Thomas and Charlotte. Charlotte married William Venables (George's brother).

I look forward to hearing from you, so we can clear this discrepancy up.

Ireland / Connell

Hi all

I am trying to find more details on a James Christopher Connell.

Her was born on 17th July 1924 in Ireland and died in 1992, Enfield District, London, England.

I have found his marriage in St Pancras, London, however I can't find anything else out about him.

I tried searching the Ireland Births but can't locate him under James or Christopher Connell/O'Connell.

Any help would be fantastic. Thank you :)

Hi there

I am not sure if this will help, but this could be an entry for her father William:
