Midlothian / Re: Mary Burrows abt 1807

Thank you brooksburns.

That is indeed my "Mary Burrows" and she was transported to Tasmania for "uttering base coin" her second offence.
I discovered BURROWS was her maiden name - she did not change her name when married.
She married Alexander McNab.

Many thanks -- PS I have not been on Roots Chat for a long time

Just what I said Spices (#12)    :)   I agree.

- and no it wouldn't.  Antibiotics weren't around until much later -  during or soon after WWII I think.  I know my Aunt was still using Sulphonamides in WWII

Sorry Wiggy I missed reading your post #12

I have to admit that I've been lazy and haven't even finished week 1 yet!  ???

Just haven't been able to get "hooked" into it!  Up to the quiz now, but when the spirit moves me again, I'll go back through what I have already done to refresh my fried brain before attacking that, and then move on to Week 2!

jaybelnz you are not alone.
I hope to get some done when on" my big adventure" next week. Not having to go to so many appointments I should have some free time. ::) ::)

Lots of talk on the radio about Aussie songs.

Wow, many thanks for that snippet.

I think the 1941 cutting I posted earlier suggests the circus stopped after his death.

I wonder that that book has cited its sources ... if so, perhaps our OP would be interested in following those back to their primary origins.   :)

Cheers,  JM

Yes the book has 3 pages of Sources
Newspapers, Magazines, Books, Playbills & Interviews.

"Interviews have been cited as appropriately throughout the book."

The St Leon family were circus performers not sure if they owned circuses.
In 1954 Leo St Leon was a fourth generation St Leon family performing under the Wirth canvas during the Sydney Easter season.

For interest Mark St Leon started preparing this book while in his final year at high school & completed the task 13 years later.
